Kpreps – Rankings Week 9
The 2023 regular season is complete and it is playoff time. The last week of the regular season resulted in some notable results among ranked teams and featured several marquee matchups to wrap up district play.

Class 6A
There is some movement in our 6A poll this week as we enter the playoffs. Last week’s No. 5 Manhattan went on the road and held off then No. 4 Wichita Northwest 28-24. Elsewhere, Gardner-Edgerton rolled over Olathe South and Olathe North handed Lawrence Free State a second consecutive defeat with a 35-21 road win. A new team enters the team this week. Class 5A
There is also some movement in this week’s Class 5A poll as the lone remaining unbeaten entering last week, Goddard-Eisenhower dropped a 22-14 decision to rival Goddard. Blue Valley Southwest passed a big EKL test by doubling-up St. Thomas Aquinas, 42-21, and De Soto claimed the United Kansas Conference title with a big win over Basehor-Linwood. Class 4A
There is no change at the top in 4A as Bishop Miege defeated Blue Valley Northwest, 42-16. Elsewhere, Aquinas dropped a 42-21 decision to Blue Valley Southwest, while Louisburg remained unbeaten with an impressive 35-21 win at Spring Hill. On Thursday night, then No. 5 Buhler dropped a close decision to McPherson at a game played at Wichita’s Riverfront Stadium. Find out how this week’s 4A poll shapes up at the link below.
Class 3A
There is no change in this week’s 3A poll. Top-ranked Cheney rolled to a big win over Halstead, while Andale started a new streak with a 43-6 win over Pratt. Find out how this week’s Class 3A poll is arranged at the link below.
Class 2A
The two big ranked showdowns in Class 2A turned in to one-sided shutouts. Top-ranked Nemaha Central blanked Sabetha, 28-0, and then No. 4 Southeast of Saline pulled away from then No. 5 Ellsworth, 30-0. See the remainder of the poll at the link below.
Class 1A
In Class 1A, Sedgwick knocked Marion from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 34-28 victory. Elsewhere, Smith Center won a big district match-up over Valley Heights, 34-22. As a result, we have some changes in this week’s 1A poll. See the details of the Class 1A rankings at the link below.
Class 8M-I
There are some changes in this week’s Eight-Man, Division I poll as Hoxie won a district championship by defeating then No. 4 Atwood-Rawlins County. Elsewhere, Central Burden pulled away in the second half from South Sumner County to win the battle of unbeatens, 72-40. Class 8M-II
In Eight-Man, Division II, the top five all rolled to big victories. Only Minneola was challenged in a high-scoring shootout against Dighton. The Wildcats came out on top 100-64. Find out how this week’s poll and the first-round playoff pairings at the link below.
Class 6-Man
The top five in 6-Man remain the same again this week as only four teams played. Waverly received a forfeit victory from Southern Coffey County, instead designating the teams’ early-season meeting (in Week 1) as the district contest. Elsewhere, Ashland handled Chetopa, 67-6, in a Saturday non-district contest. Check out the remainder of the poll at the link below.
