Class 6A
Top-ranked Manhattan handled rival Junction City 44-7 in the battle for the Silver Trophy. Junction City was ranked No. 5 in last week’s poll. Elsewhere, Derby fell 52-51 to Maize in another great contest between the two teams – the third straight meeting decided by a single point. Find out how those results shaped this week’s 6A poll below.
Class 5A
Once again, there are no changes in this week’s 5A poll. Second-ranked Maize delivered an impressive comeback in defeating 6A-power Deby, 52-51. Elsewhere, Bishop Carroll defeated rival Kapaun Mt. Carmel 26-21 in a huge crowd at Wichita’s Riverfront Stadium. See the remainder of the 5A poll at the link below.
Class 4A
Perhaps Class 4A is the one that needs the most explanation this week. Top-ranked Bishop Miege led No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas 20-0 before some costly turnovers aided a Saints comeback and eventual 29-26 victory. That means the top three teams in the classification for most of the year, Miege, Aquinas, and St. James Academy have all split against each other. Bishop Miege is 5-1 after the loss to Aquinas, but has defeated St. James 52-14. Aquinas snapped a two-game losing streak with the win over Miege. The Saints had previously lost to St. James, 24-20. See this week’s poll at the link below.
Class 3A
After no change in the 3A poll for several weeks, Andale proved there is much separation at the top as the Indians blasted then No. 2 Wichita Collegiate, 49-0. While Andale is the clear favorite, teams like Topeka Hayden and Holton are expected to challenge on the east side. Hayden and Holton meet this week in a key district contest. Find out how Collegiate’s loss to Andale impacted this week’s poll.
Class 2A
In Class 2A, third-ranked Kingman won the unbeaten showdown with Chaparral by handling the Roadrunners, 35-7. Kingman remains in the top three in this week’s poll, while Ellsworth, newcomer to the poll last week, held off Russell for a quality road victory. Find out how this week’s 2A poll shapes up at the link below.
Class 1A
The two top teams, Inman and Olpe, each posted shutouts by the same 38-0 margin last week. The remainder of the poll in 1A remains the same, but several challengers await right outside the top five.

Class 8M-I
Last week’s showdown between top-ranked Leoti-Wichita County and defending-champion Meade went the way of the visiting Indians, 56-20. The Wichita County victory snapped Meade’s 20-game winning streak. Elsewhere, Hoxie upset No. 2 Hill City, 20-14, and South Sumner County passed its first test by running away from previously-unbeaten Wichita Independent. See the results of this week’s poll below.
Class 8M-II
The top five teams in 8-Man, Division II remain the same with only No. 3 Victoria being challenged last week. The Knights held on for a 30-28 win over Sharon Springs-Wallace County. Top-ranked Axtell pulled away from rival Hanover in their annual Twin Valley League showdown.
Class 6-Man
The most significant result from Week 6 at the 6-Man ranks was No. 4 Waverly’s 38-32 win over Wetmore to remain unbeaten. Four of the top five teams will take on opponents with winning records this week.
