GREENSBURG – The South Central Timberwolves claimed the 2025 Eight-Man, Division I state football championship with a 34-8 victory over Lincoln on Saturday afternoon at Kiowa County High School in Greensburg.

The Timberwolves used a stout defense to force two early turnovers and a Lincoln turnover on downs and Easton Huck and the South Central offense got the ground game going to take a two-score lead.

Huck’s short scoring run gave the Timberwolves an 8-0 lead, and after a Lincoln turnover, Coda Lindsay went into the end zone on a 4-yard run for a 14-0 lead.

Lincoln would respond with a Jeremiah Miller touchdown run to pull within 14-8 mid-way through the second quarter.

Lincoln looked to then grab all the momentum. The Leopards stuffed Huck on 4th-and-goal at the 1-yard line. But the Lincoln offense could not move the ball and were forced to punt out of their own end zone. Lindsay blocked the punt for South Central and Colt Yoder recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown with :54 seconds left in the half. Huck’s pass to Lindsay on the two-point conversion extended the South Central lead to 22-8 at halftime.

The third quarter featured the two teams trading turnovers in the cold windy conditions. After fumbles by each team, South Central secured the ball and Lindsay broke a 46-yard touchdown run to put the T-Wolves up 28-8 with 1:53 left in the third quarter.

Lindsay later added his third rushing score with 4:22 left to push the lead to 34-8.

The atmosphere was dampened late in the game as Lincoln’s Xavier Miller was injured on the ensuing kickoff. After a long delay, Miller was taken off the field on a stretcher which was later believed to be a precautionary measure.

When play resumed, South Central forced a Lincoln turnover on downs and was able to run out the clock to secure their first state football championship since the consolidation of Coldwater and Protection.

Coldwater had previously won state football titles in 1985, 1994, and 1995, while Protection won state titles in 1978 and 1983.

South Central finished the season 12-0, while Lincoln finished 11-2.
