The Kansas high school football season kicked off last week with an incredible lineup of games. In all, there were ten games that pitted ranked opponents against one another.

In all, 15 ranked teams lost in the opening week, including three preseason No. 1 teams.

Class 6A

Manhattan shocked the state by going on the road and winning at preseason No. 1 Derby. The Indians built a 15-0 lead, fell behind 23-15, rallied to tie the game, and won in overtime, 26-23. How does the rest of the 6A poll shake up this week?

Class 5A

The top three teams in the 5A poll each rolled to big victories in the opening weekend. Top-ranked Mill Valley and No. 3 Kapaun Mt. Carmel each posted shutouts, while No. 2 Maize throttled Topeka High, 78-7 on Saturday. Class 4A

There is a new No. 1 team in Class 4A this week as two-time defending champion St. James Academy dropped its opener against reigning 6A champ Blue Valley Northwest. Find out who the “new” team is atop the Class 4A poll below!

Class 3A

Top-ranked Andale rolled to a 39th consecutive victory with a 63-14 drubbing of Wellington. But while the Indians were rolling, two other teams ranked in the preseason top five in 3A fell in their season opener. Find out how much the Class 3A poll was shaken up as a result!

Class 2A

Defending champion Rossville saw its 26-game win streak snapped at the hands of 1A No. 1 St. Marys. But Rossville wasn’t the only 2A ranked team to lose last week. In one of the bigger surprises of Week 1, Beloit dropped a low-scoring decision to Ellsworth. How does this week’s poll look as a result? Find out below!

Class 1A

Olpe had won 24 consecutive games in back-to-back dominating seasons that culminated in 1A state titles. The Eagles opened the season with a challenge at ranked 3A contender Topeka Hayden. Hayden ended Olpe’s win streak with a 21-7 victory, but the Eagles were very competitive. Find out how this week’s 1A poll looks at the link below.

Class 8M-I

We have a new No. 1 team in 8-Man, Division I as Little River suffered a 66-36 loss to Wheat State League rival Canton-Galva, ranked No. 2 in 8-Man, Division II. How far did the Redskins fall? Who is the new top-ranked team in Division I? Find out at the link below.

Class 8M-II

Defending champion Axtell was challenged for more than a half against last year’s KCAA champion Cair Paravel. The Lions led Axtell 32-30 in the third quarter before the Eagles went on to score 52 points in pulling away for an 82-38 victory. Four of the five teams in the 8-Man, Division II preseason poll were victorious in Week 1. Find out how the new poll looks at the link below.

Class 6-Man

Class 6-Man featured an incredible lineup of games in the opening week with No. 1 Cunningham defeating No. 2 Ashland, 38-30. Elsewhere, No. 3 Northern Valley blanked defending-champion and No. 4 Natoma, 38-0. Find out all the changes in this week’s 6-Man poll below.
