There is a new No. 1 in Class 6A as the Derby Panthers replace Hutchinson as the top team in the state’s largest class. The Panthers shut out Haysville Campus, while Hutchinson fell one spot to No. 2 after a 35-10 home loss to Salina South. Derby travels to Hutchinson this week in one of five games featuring two ranked teams. Shawnee Mission East and Lawrence Free State is another of those ranked matchups as the third-ranked Lancers and fourth-ranked Firebirds square off in Lawrence this week. Topeka High enters the rankings at No. 5 after a 34-13 win over Topeka Seaman.
In Class 5A, Bishop Carroll retains the top spot after a 61-14 win over Wichita Northwest. Emporia scored a late touchdown and blocked a field goal as time expired to escape Topeka Hayden 36-35 and remain in the No. 2 spot. The aforementioned Salina South Cougars are up one spot to No. 3 after a huge road win over Hutchinson. St. Thomas Aquinas remained unbeaten by beating Blue Valley North, and Hays is back in the top five after blasting Wichita South.
In Class 4A, No. 2 Mulvane and No. 3 McPherson will take center stage in Week 6 as the Wildcats and Bullpups will battle in Mulvane. Fourth-ranked Eudora shut out Spring Hill, and another tough test awaits the Cardinals this week as they host undefeated St. James Academy. Wichita Collegiate remains at No. 5 after surviving a late Clearwater rally to win 38-35. The Spartans take on unbeaten Maize South in Week 6.
While the Class 3A rankings again remained unchanged, things may shake up next this week. Third-ranked Conway Springs and No. 4 Garden Plain have their annual Central Plains League showdown scheduled for Week 6, while top-ranked Silver Lake will travel to unbeaten Rossville for the War on 24.
The 2-1A top five underwent some change this week as Meade knocked off Stanton County 28-6. The Buffaloes moved up to No. 2 in the poll, while the Trojans fell to the fifth spot. Lyndon moves up to No. 3 after an impressive 40-6 road win at Olpe, and Centralia won the 11-man version of the Twin Valley League with a 42-6 win over Valley Heights.
Ness City remains atop the 8-Man, Division-I poll after shutting out Quinter. Madison and South Haven fill the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, while Marmaton Valley and Solomon are fourth and fifth after putting up 66 and 70 points, respectively. Madison’s annual battle with Lebo occurs in Week 6, while South Haven will take on unbeaten Udall in a key District 1 showdown.
Baileyville B&B passed a good test from Axtell in a 32-14 win. The Falcons remained atop the Division-II poll followed by Sharon Springs-Wallace County, which was idle last week. No. 3 Waverly survived Kyle Hammond and Colony-Crest with a 70-56 win. Otis-Bison outscored Dighton to remain at No. 4, while Thunder Ridge is fifth after shutting out Natoma.
