POLL QUESTIONS
Which of these week 2 games involving ranked teams was the biggest surprise?
Wichita Northwest's upset of 6A #3 Dodge City was the biggest surprise to Kpreps fans - barely. Caney Valley over 2-1A #5 Olpe, 4A #5 Paola's domination of DeSoto, and 8M-II #4 Thunder Ridge knocking off #2 Hanover all had a strong showing as well. A very balanced poll resulted in the top 4 responses all within 10 votes of each other.
Which of these fairly new football programs will have the biggest impact on their classification this season?
We will close the voting on this poll this evening and it looks like Maize South (4A) will come out on top. The Mavericks will finish a few votes ahead of Blue Valley Southwest and Central Plains and are making Kpreps readers look fairly wise with their 2-0 start.
Which team has the best chance to repeat in 2011?
Small schools get all the love in this one. The defending champions in Kansas' three smallest classifications account for almost 70% of the vote with the Meade Buffaloes the clear front-runner. Perhaps our preseason state championship picks have an influence on the fan opinion? (Kpreps picked Meade, Baileyville B&B, and Madison to repeat at the beginning of the season) View the Poll.
A random note before we reveal the fan rankings…
Kpreps definitely has a strong following in the towns of Pittsburg and Paola. Our Game of the Week poll received 357 votes - 154 of those coming for the showdown between two tradition rich schools.
FAN RANKINGS
CLASS 6A
1. Wichita Heights (51%)
2. Olathe North (24%)
3. Manhattan (12%)
4. Dodge City (5%)
5. Junction City (2%)
5. Olathe South (2%)
5. Washburn Rural (2%)
CLASS 5A
1. Blue Valley (40%)
2. Hutchinson (25%)
3. McPherson (8%)
3. Bishop Miege (8%)
3. Salina Central (8%)
CLASS 4A
1. Ulysses (43%)
2. Paola (20%)
3. Topeka Hayden (10%)
3. Holton (10%)
5. Concordia (9%)
Noteworthy: The fans seem to punish a one loss team much more than Kpreps in the rankings. Despite Topeka Hayden's very close loss to 6A #3 Manhattan, they are still #1 in the Kpreps rankings. Fans also have dropped other one loss teams (Olathe East in 6A, Gardner-Edgerton in 5A, Osborne in 8M-I, Hanover in 8M-II) further down than they currently sit in the Kpreps Top 5.
CLASS 3A
1. Conway Springs (56%)
2. Scott City (16%)
3. Smith Center (9%)
4. Garden Plain (7%)
5. Beloit (5%)
Noteworthy: Defending champion Silver Lake is #3 in Kpreps poll but is not one of the top five vote getters by the fans. No respect for the defending champs.
CLASS 2-1A
1. Meade (54%)
2. St. Mary's Colgan (21%)
3. Stanton County (10%)
4. Lacrosse (6%)
4. Plainville (6%)
CLASS 8M-I
1. Madison (58%)
2. Lebo (12%)
3. Lakeside-Downs (10%)
4. Central Burden (6%)
4. Ness City (6%)
CLASS 8M-II
1. Baileyville B&B (44%)
2. Thunder Ridge (33%)
3. Otis-Bison (11%)
4. Ashland (4%)
5. Moscow (2%)
Noteworthy: Kpreps fans have rewarded the high-powered Moscow offense, which is averaging 89 points per game, with the #5 ranking. They'll need to prove they can play defense as well (allowing 46 points per game) before they crack the Kpreps top 5.
