While the top five spots in 6A, 5A, 4A, and 2-1A remained unchanged, major movement occurred in Class 3A and in 8-Man Division I.
In Class 3A, Smith Center enters the rankings at #4 after eliminating previously second-ranked Scott City, 42-35. In their first year back in 3A, the Redmen simply reminded the state that they’re still around after being written off by many in the state when they lost regular season games to Phillipsburg and Norton.
Fellow District 14 member Beloit follows the Redmen in to the top five after knocking off last week’s fourth-ranked Norton Blue Jays by the same 42-35 score.
As a result of Scott City’s loss, Silver Lake moves up a spot to #2, while Hutchinson Trinity is up two spots to #3 after eliminating defending champion Wichita Collegiate 26-8.
Conway Springs remains at the top in 3A after beating arch-rival Garden Plain for the second time this season, 20-6.
For the first time this season, the Pretty Prairie Bulldogs are not atop the 8-Man Division I poll after seeing their dream season end at the hands of the Osborne Bulldogs, 50-40. Madison takes over the top spot in 8-Man Division I after beating Clifton-Clyde 82-32 on Tuesday, and knocking out Central Burden 58-12 on Saturday afternoon.
Osborne moves up one spot to #2 by virtue of their road win over Pretty Prairie, and Hill City is up to #3 after slipping by Jetmore-Hodgeman County, 26-20. The Ringnecks will host Osborne in the state semifinals on Friday. Osborne handed Hill City its only loss of the season, 50-38, in district play.
Pretty Prairie falls from the top spot to #4, one spot ahead of the Lebo Wolves who return to the rankings after narrow wins over Lakeside-Downs (50-42) and Colony Crest (50-40). Lebo will host Madison in the state semifinals this week.
In 8-Man Division II, Caldwell takes over the #5 spot after ending its season at 9-2 with a 52-28 road loss at #2 Hanover. The Blue Jays defeated Waverly 71-22 in the first round.
