KC Sumner Academy built a 24-0 lead en route to a 36-22 win over previously unbeaten Basehor-Linwood. The Bobcats cut the Sabre lead to 24-22 before Sumner scores twice to put the game away.
Jared McComb scored Chanute’s first six touchdowns as the Blue Comets raced past Columbus 58-35. Columbus led 21-14 before McComb struck twice to give the Comets a 27-21 halftime lead. The win by Chanute erased a 35-31 win by Columbus when the two teams met earlier in the season.
Matt Bromley rushed for 325 yards and four touchdowns as the Independence Bulldogs held off the upstart Coffeyville Golden Tornado 34-29 in a Montgomery County playoff battle.
Hesston came up with a game-winning interception on the 10-yard line with under 2 minutes left in the game to hold off Concordia, 21-14. The Swathers (8-2) will host Ulysses (8-2) on Saturday. Ulysses advanced by beating Pratt 32-7.
Northern Heights quarterback D.J. Bronson entered the playoffs having thrown for 3,500 yards and 48 touchdowns. He would throw his state-record 49th touchdown pass with just over a minute to go, but he was also intercepted 8 times as Silver Lake rolled the Wildcats 68-6.
Riverton and Neodesha played a wild game. Neodesha scored with 16 seconds left in the first half, only to have Riverton answer with 2 seconds left. The Blue Streaks led 28-26 at the break. Riverton would take a 33-28 lead before the Blue Streaks scored twice to take a 43-33. The Rams would threaten mid-way through the third quarter, but turned the ball over. Riverton pulled within 43-40 with 1:10 left in the game, but the Rams could not recover the onside kick. Anthony Thayer unofficially rushed for 250 yards for Neodesha in the win. Riverton finishes the season at 7-3, while the Blue Streaks improve to 7-3 and will travel to Wellsville on Saturday.
Derek Racette provided more late-game playoff heroics for the Hutchinson Trinity Celtics. Trailing for most of the game, the Celtics forced a Whitewater Remington safety with just over 2 minutes left in the game to cut the Bronco lead to 24-19. Racette then led his team down the field for the deciding score in a 26-24 comeback win. The game was a rematch of a regular season contest won by Hutch Trinity, 43-12.
Garden Plain looked impressive in their 41-0 victory over Hillsboro scoring all 41 points before the half. Joey Capul rushed for 35 yards and three touchdowns on five carries and Reed Hartshorn added 67 yards and a touchdown on three carries. Nathan Becker completed 8 of 15 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns with an interception and Chris Sponsel led all receivers with 134 yards on five catches. The Owls now face a rematch with rival Conway Springs Saturday. The Cardinals beat the Owls 29-14 in week three of the season.
Madison outscored Clifton-Clyde 82-32 to finally get over their Twin Valley League playoff hurdle. Kole Schankie unofficially had over 350 yards and scored 10 touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
The Hill City Ringnecks opened the 2010 post season in style posting their school's first ever playoff victory with a 50-0 first half win at Lincoln. Reggie Jordan was unstoppable as he rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns and passed for 123 yards and another score as the Ringnecks jumped to a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised to the victory scoring their 50th point with 5:21 in the second quarter. Jordan showed off a tremendous arm completing three passes of more than 30 yards in the win. Junior running back Adam Pfeifer also got into the action scoring on a three-yard touchdown run and a 40-yard touchdown reception. Nathan Hanna added a defensive score for the Ringnecks with a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown early in the second quarter. For Lincoln, senior running back Brady Coover tallied 70 yards rushing in the loss to go over 1,500 yards rushing on the season.
In 8 Man-II, Braden Lebeda threw four touchdown passes as Caldwell eliminated Waverly 71-22. The Blue Jays will advance to the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year, but will have to travel to Hanover to take on the dominant Wildcats. Hanover advanced by virtue of a 50-0 shutout of Hope.
Victoria couldn't overcome the loss of top player Kameron Dinkel as the Cheylin Cougars improved to 10-0 with a 56-6 dismantling of the Knights. Their reward, a home game against 8-Man Division II's third ranked Otis-Bison Cougars. The Cougars are 9-0 thanks to a 46-0 blanking of Fowler. Otis-Bison has been unstoppable on offense scoring 46 points in every contest this year.
