6A

Defending state champion, Blue Valley Northwest, remains atop of this classification and won the rematch of the 6A title game from a year ago against Blue Valley West on Tuesday (49-37). The Huskies, who returned all five starters from last season, only loss this season is to Apple Valley (MN), who is ranked in the top five nationally by Max Preps. Wichita East moves up a place this week to the number two spot and are paced by five scorers over 10 points per game. Defending 5A champion, SM South, moves down two spots to four because of their loss to SM Northwest (6) on Friday.

5A

The top five remains identical from last week. Highland Park, who took second in 4A last season, remains at the top spot in this week’s ranking. The Scots picked up a 55-51 victory over a top 10 opponent in Shawnee Heights (8) on Tuesday. Mill Valley (10) is the only new team to this week’s top 10 ranking.

4A-I

McPherson and Baldwin remain at the top two spots in this division. McPherson (8-0) is dominating opponents with an average margin of victory of 26.6 points per contest. They are led by junior all-state guard, Kyler Kinnamon, who is averaging 19.6 points per game. Baldwin still remains at the two spots despite losing to rival & defending 4A champion Ottawa (5) on Tuesday. Ottawa would lose to 4A-II #6 Eudora on Friday. Coffeyville-Field Kindley (6) moves out of this week’s top five because of their last second overtime loss to rival Independence on Friday.

4A-II

Andale (1) and Scott City (2) hang on to their top two spots in this brand new 4A-II classification. Andale remains undefeated while Scott Community has one loss on the season (Pueblo East, CO). Concordia (3) is paced by the Holmes brothers, Grant and Caleb, who combined for 52 points on Friday night. Eudora at the six spot is a team to look out for and are paced by a senior/freshman brother combo, Andrew and Mitchell Ballock. The brothers combined for 45 points in a win on Friday night against 4A-I #5 Ottawa.

3A

The top five of 3A boys remains identical from last week. Hesston, who is also ranked first in girls 3A, remains at the top spot of this classification. The Swathers (9-0) are winning games by an average margin of 18.3 points per game. Beloit (9-0), who is ranked third, is a team to watch for and are led by senior Peyton Vetter’s 21.9 points per game. The Trojans, led by head coach Ryan Eilert, are averaging over 70 points per contest and have four players who average in double figure points.

2A

St. John has been the talk of this classification all season long. The defending 1A-I state champ, led by head coach Clint Kinnamon, are winning games by an average margin of 39 points per game. They are coming off a 19 point win over previously ranked 4A-II opponent, Larned, on Friday. Central Plains, who lost their only game this season to St. John before holiday break, moves up two spots this week to be ranked second. Colgan (7) moves out of the top five this week, however both of the Panthers losses on the season have came to bigger out of state opponents from Missouri.

1A-I

MDCV remains at the top spot in the 1A-I classification. The Trojans (10-0) are winning every game this season by an average margin of 29.1 points per contest. MDCV features Mark Price (6-9 senior) and Matt Jones (6-6 senior) that will be hard for most teams in Kansas to match up with. Udall cracks the top five this week at the fifth spot. The Eagles (9-0) are winning by a margin of 34.4 points per contest.

1A-II

Top five of 1A-I remain exactly the same from last week. Sharon Springs Wallace County (1), St. John’s Tipton (2), Fowler (3), South Barber (4), and Baileyville B&B (5) remain in their same spots. The #2 ranked Bluejays (8-0) of St. John’s Tipton have three players (Trey Dubbert, Connor Eilert, Luke Eilert) who average in double figures on the season.
