Breaking down the rankings by each class...

6A

6A boys top five looks to be very solid overall. Defending state champion Blue Valley Northwest remains at the top spot, while 2013 5A state champion, Shawnee Mission South remains at the two spot. Wichita East (3), Olathe East (4), and Lawrence (5) round out the top five. Blue Valley West, who took second in 6A last year, will face Blue Valley Northwest (1) on Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s 6A title game. view full list

5A

Topeka Highland Park remains at the top position in 5A boys. Wichita Heights, who has been a 6A power in the past, is at the five spot this week.  Highland Park, who is ranked 44th nationally by MaxPreps, seems to be the early favorite by most across the state. The Scots, led by head coach Ken Darting, took second in 4A last season. #2 Goddard-Eisenhower has also came out hot in 2013-14 and is paced by all-state selection Trevon Evans (24.3 ppg). view full list

4A-I

The first year of 4A-I boys could be interesting with this brand new classification. McPherson (1) and Baldwin (2) remain atop of this division. A key out of classification match-up will take place between #4 Basheor-Linwood and 5A #4 Lansing on Friday. #3 Coffeyville-Field Kindley picked up its first loss last week to non-KSHSAA member Wichita Defenders. view full list

4A-II

Not a lot of movement of this week’s top five in 4A-II. Andale (1), Scott City (2), and Holton (3) all remain atop of this division. #2 Scott City is the 3-time defending state champion in Class 3A and loss a lot of key talent from last year. As expected, Trey O’Neil (6-3 Junior) of Scott City has stepped up big, averaging over 25 points per contest for the Beavers. view full list

3A

Hesston, Eureka and Beloit are ranked in the top three of this weeks new rankings. Rounding out the top five are Sabetha and Holcomb. Wichita Collegiate, who spent a lot of time at the #1 spot, moves down to #8 this week. A lot of movement in this week’s classification, and with Scott City up to 4A-I this class could be wide open. view full list

2A

St. John, the defending 1A-I champ, has had an average winning margin of 40.4 points per contest on the season. Colgan, who is in the five spot, only loss is to a larger opponent from the state of Missouri. The Panthers, who will play their fifth out of state opponent on Tuesday, just knocked off the seventh ranked team in 4A-II, Columbus (53-48), on Friday.  View full list

1A-I

Not many schools at any level in Kansas feature the height that MDCV has in Matt Jones (6-6) and Mark Price (6-8). Fairfield (2), Valley Heights (3), Centralia (4), and Hoxie (5) round out this week’s top five. View full list

1A-II

Wallace County and Beloit St. Johns Tipton remain atop of the 1A-II classification. It’s amazing how many schools that were state caliber contenders in football that are also the same way for basketball. Fowler (3), South Barber (4), and B&B (5) round on this week’s top five. View full list
