Week 2 of the Kansas high school football season brought 13 more losses by ranked teams.

Class 6A

The massive No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown between Mill Valey and Manhattan went the way of the host Jaguars, 21-7. Mill Valley retains the top spot this week while defending 6A champion Manhattan is searching for answers after a 0-2 start against two of the top teams in the region. Two more teams ranked in last week’s poll also lost. Olathe Northwest (4) fell on Thursday to Blue Valley Northwest, while Olathe West (5) was beaten by Blue Valley. Kpreps – Class 6A Rankings


Class 5A

There is no change to the top five in Class 5A this week. Top-ranked Kapaun Mt. Carmel continues to roll after 35-point first quarter helped the Crusaders to a 49-10 win at Wichita Northwest. Elsewhere, St. James Academy and Basehor-Linwood took care of business, while Hays High had perhaps the win of the week by winning at Gardner-Edgerton, 20-6.

Class 4A

The No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown between EKL rivals Bishop Miege and St. Thomas Aquinas quickly turned into a mismatch. Bishop Miege scored late in the first half to take a commanding 24-0 lead into the break. After a scoreless third quarter, Miege added a touchdown and field goal to lead 34-0. Aquinas played without starting quarterback Carson Patrick. Third-ranked Eudora, fourth-ranked Great Bend, and No. 5 Wamego all rolled to big Week 2 wins.  See how this week’s 4A poll comes in at the link below.

Class 3A

Three ranked teams in Class 3A fell last week. Holcomb suffered a late turnover and touchdown to lose 25-21 at Garden Plain. Meanwhile, Tonganoxie handled by Topeka Hayden, 34-13, and handed Hayden a third straight loss. Jefferson West and Hesston enter the poll this week as turnovers hurt Hoisington late in the game in a 23-16 loss at Hesston.  See results from the remainder of the ranked teams at the link below.

Class 2A

Nemaha Central forced overtime against top-ranked Sabetha, but the Bluejays prevailed 21-14. The big Flint Hill League contest last week saw No. 4 Council Grove take down No. 3 Osage City, 22-14.  Find out the new entries into the poll at the link below!

Class 1A

Two Class 1A teams took losses last week but each is to prepare them for the playoffs. Centralia lost a second consecutive game against a larger opponent. After falling 14-0 to Rock Creek in the opener, Centralia fell 27-0 to Jefferson West. New to the poll this week is Thomas More Prep-Marian which is coming off of a strong win over Russell. This week, No. 1 Sterling will host No. 2 Inman in the marquee game in the classification.

Class 8M-I

Eight-Man, Division I has a No. 1 this week as defending-champion South Central was upset at home by Reno County Homeschool, 30-28. The Timberwolves fall out of the top spot making room for Lincoln to take the No. 1 slot this week. The Leopards routed Pike Valley 78-0 on the strength of three defensive touchdowns. Elsewhere, No. 5 Hill City dropped a 38-22 decision to Sharon Springs-Wallace County. Click on the Rankings tab to find out the complete results of this week’s poll.

Class 8M-II

There are no changes in the Eight-Man, division II poll this week as all ranked teams rolled to victories with three posting shutouts. Click on the Rankings tab to find out the complete results of this week’s poll.

Class 6-Man

A week after defeating then No. 2 South Barber, Tescott backed up that performance with a 47-0 shut out of then No. 4 Peabody-Burns. However, Weskan remains in the top spot and could get a challenge from Marias des Cygnes Valley on a neutral site at Chase High School. Ingalls moved up a spot this week, while Otis-Bison enters the poll for the first time this season.
