The opening week of the Kansas high school football season saw eleven ranked teams drop their season opener.

Class 6A
Preseason No. 1 and defending-champion Manhattan gave up a late touchdown pass to drop a close 32-28 decision to Rockhurst (Mo.). Elsewhere, No. 5 Wichita Northwest lost its season-opener against rival Bishop Carroll. Which team joins the top five this week? Find out at the link below!
Class 5A
The Class 5A poll has some shakeup this week after defending-champion Salina Central fell to rival Salina South in the “Mayor’s Cup”. Find out how that result impacts the rest of this week’s 5A poll!
Class 4A
Preseason No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas dropped its opener against 5A-ranked St. James Academy. The Saints have a rivalry game against Bishop Miege this week. See how this week’s 4A poll comes in at the link below.
Class 3A
Top-ranked Andale won its 27th consecutive game with a dominating performance against Rose Hill. Topeka Hayden dropped its opener to 4A-ranked Eudora. See results from the remainder of the ranked teams at the link below.
Class 2A
Four of the five ranked 2A teams started the season with a victory. Only Garden Plain lost this week, 28-27, to the fourth-ranked team in Class 3A, Cheney. The Owls scored late and went for the two-point conversion and the win, but Cheney stopped Garden Plain short on the attempt. This week features a few big games between ranked teams as Osage City will take on Council Grove. Meanwhile, Sabetha takes on rival Nemaha Central, and Silver Lake will battle 1A-ranked Rossville in the “War on 24”.
Class 1A
Defending-champion Sterling opened the season with a 53-21 win over Moundridge. The Black Bears got on the board early as Jacob Lewis returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Only fourth-ranked Centralia dropped its opener, 14-0, at Class 4A Rock Creek.

Class 8M-I
In 8-Man, Division I, a pair of highly-ranked teams suffered upset losses in Week 1. Second-ranked WaKeeney-Trego lost 38-32 to Hill City, while No. 3 Oberlin-Decatur Community fell 30-20 to Dighton. Click on the Rankings tab to find out the complete results of this week’s poll.
Class 8M-II
Defending-champion Hanover cruised to a 62-20 win over Thayer Central (Neb.). The only ranked team to lose was then No. 4 Victoria, which dropped a 28-18 decision to league-rival Central Plains. Click on the Rankings tab to find out the complete results of this week’s poll.
Class 6-Man
The marquee game in 6-Man football saw then No. 3 Tescott use a big second half to pull away from No. 2 South Barber, 58-20. The Trojans led the Chieftains 29-20 at halftime before breaking the game open in the second half. See how that result impacted this week’s 6-Man top five.
