Kpreps.com would like to congratulate all of the state champions and runners-up for the outstanding accomplishment of reaching high school football’s biggest stage.
This will mark our final rankings for the 2011 season. Below you’ll find the final rankings as well as our preseason rankings for each class made some 14 weeks ago.
Class 6A
Congratulations to Jeff Gourley and the Olathe South Falcons for winning the 6A state title with a 41-37 win over Wichita Heights. The Falcons rallied with a late score from Jordan Ward to win the school’s first state football championship. Ward finished with 263 yards rushing and four touchdowns in the game.

Class 5A
Hutchinson won the school’s seventh state football championship in eight years be defeating defending 5A champion Blue Valley, 33-21. The Salthawks have posted a 94-9 record during the past eight seasons with those seven state championships. Hutchinson finished the season 11-2 with losses to Bishop Carroll and Rockhurst (Mo.).

Class 4A
Coach Greg Slade and the Rose Hill Rockets shutout Eudora 21-0 to claim the school’s first ever state football championship. The Rockets won 13 consecutive games after a season-opening eight-point loss to Buhler.

Class 3A
Conway Springs returned to the top of 3A with a dominating 49-7 win over Silver Lake. The Cardinals rushed for more than 500 yards in the game to recapture the title after falling to Silver Lake in last year’s championship game. Conway Springs has now beaten Silver Lake in five out of six meetings in the 3A state championship game.

Class 2-1A
Congratulations to Larry Glatczak and the Centralia Panthers in capturing the 2-1A state championship for the second time in the past three seasons. The Panthers defeated LaCrosse 20-14 in overtime on Saturday. Both of the schools’ state football championships have come in overtime as Centralia defeated Smith Center 20-12 in overtime in 2009.  Centralia rushed for 274 yards in the win over LaCrosse.

Class 8M-I
Fred McClain and the Madison Bulldogs won their second consecutive 8-Man Division 1 championship by beating South Gray, 30-12.  The Bulldogs once again rode the legs of Kole Schankie who rushed for 232 yards and two touchdowns in the game.

Class 8M-II
Thunder Ridge completed an undefeated season by winning the Eight-Man, Division II championship 46-14 over Baileyville B&B. Longhorn running back Joel Struckhoff rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns in addition to returning a kickoff 70 yards for another score. Struckhoff finished his career with 6,916 yards rushing and 127 touchdowns – tops in Kansas eight-man history.
