Olathe South and Olathe East trade spots in the 6A Top 5 as the Falcons ran past the Hawks, 36-18. Jordan Ward rushed for 252 yards to lead Olathe South into the playoffs where they will host Lawrence in the first round. Olathe East will be the road team in a battle with Olathe Northwest.

Wichita Northwest re-enters the 6A rankings after their 63-16 rout of Wichita South. The Grizzlies took advantage of Washburn Rural’s 54-53 double-overtime loss to Topeka High to enter the rankings for the first time since Week 4 when the Grizzlies fell to Bishop Carroll.

Speaking of Bishop Carroll, the Golden Eagles knocked off top-ranked Hutchinson 32-24 in Class 5A. The Salthawks time at the top was short-lived as Carroll used a big game from Zeke Palmer to knock off Hutchinson for the second consecutive time. Carroll moved up to #3 in the 5A Top 5, while Hutchinson dropped down to #4 – just one spot ahead of their first-round opponent the Hays Indians.

Blue Valley regains the top spot in Class 5A with a 40-6 thrashing of previously #5-ranked Gardner-Edgerton.

The Top 5 in Class 4A remained unchanged as only fifth-ranked Basehor-Linwood won by single digits. The Bobcats scored late to overcome Perry-Lecompton 35-28. Second-ranked Holton scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to survive a good effort by Royal Valley with a 35-14 win.

Class 3A also remained unchanged as only Silver Lake played a close game. The Eagles trailed McLouth 7-6 entering the fourth quarter before three Dailin Kruger touchdown runs put the game away.

In 2-1A, LaCrosse defeated Plainville 14-8 in a battle of ranked teams. The Leopards flexed their muscle on defense, holding Plainville to just over 130 total yards. LaCrosse is up from #5 to #3 in this week’s poll, while Plainville fell one spot to #4. Stanton County was pushed down one spot to #5.

Fifth-ranked Macksville is the only team to play a relatively close game in 8 Man-I. The Mustangs outscored a good Pratt Skyline team 48-32 to finish the regular season unbeaten. At least one of the top five teams in Division I will have its season end on Tuesday as second-ranked Lebo travels to #3 Lakeside-Downs in perhaps the premier first-round game in all classifications.

Finally the 8 Man-II Top 5 remained unchanged as well as only two of the teams actually took the field. Top-ranked Baileyville B&B and fourth-ranked Ashland had scheduled open dates, while fifth-ranked South Haven’s opponent Attica forfeited because of a lack of available players. Thunder Ridge and Otis-Bison each took the field and both posted big wins over playoff qualifiers.
