CLASS 6A:
District 1 Shawnee Mission Northwest is the champion by virtue of close wins over Shawnee Mission North and Leavenworth. The Indians and Pioneers will battle in Week 9 to determine the runner-up.
District 2 – The Shawnee Mission West Vikings have clinched the district championship and their fourth consecutive playoff berth. West has lost in the first round of the playoffs the last three seasons. Chip Sherman’s Shawnee Mission East Lancers will try and slow down Shawnee Mission South running back Gabe Guild to earn the runner-up spot. The Raiders can earn a playoffs spot for the first time since 2007 with a win.
District 3 – This district remains wide open and largely hinges on a showdown of ranked teams as Olathe East (2-0) travels to Olathe South (1-1). An East win makes the Hawks the district champion, while a Falcon win coupled with a win by Blue Valley Northwest would force a three-way tie at the top. Blue Valley Northwest takes on EKL rival Blue Valley West.
District 4 – The storyline in District 4 is the Olathe North Eagles, who have played in the 6A title game the past two seasons, clinging for their playoff lives after dropping their first two district games. The Eagles must first beat Olathe Northwest, and second hope that Lawrence Free State can beat rival Lawrence to force a three-way tie for the runner-up spot. The runner-up in that scenario would be decided by the district scoring system.
District 5 – Another district with nothing yet decided. Manhattan has the leg up with a 2-0 start, but must travel to rival Junction City in Week 9. Should the Blue Jays win – along with a Washburn Rural win over Topeka High – they along with the Junior Blues and Indians would force the district scoring system to decide both playoff spots.
District 6 – Top-ranked Wichita Heights will square off with Derby to decide both playoff spots in District 6.
District 7Wichita Northwest and Wichita South are both unbeaten in district play and have clinched playoff spots. The Grizzlies and Titans will square off in Week 9 to determine the district champion and which team will host a first-round playoff game.
District 8 – As if the Hatchet Game needed any more at stake, Dodge City will travel to Garden City to not only decide the annual rivalry game, but the district champion. The loser of this game will be on the road in the playoffs in the first round.

CLASS 5A:
District 1Lansing will travel south to Bonner Springs in a game that will decide the two playoff spots from District 1. The Lions and Braves have each qualified for the post season for the second consecutive year.  After beginning the season 6-0, the KC Schlagle Stallions have dropped two straight games and will not make the playoffs.
District 2Bishop Miege has already claimed the district title by virtue of big wins over Mill Valley and KC Turner. The runner-up will be claimed by the winner of the Mill Valley and Turner game. The Golden Bears will host the Jaguars in Week 9.
District 3Topeka Highland Park took a huge step in qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since 2004 by upsetting Topeka Seaman 27-24 in overtime. The Scots can get in with a win over winless Topeka West and a Shawnee Heights win over Seaman. Shawnee Heights in guaranteed a playoff spot regardless of their outcome against Seaman. Even if the T-Birds lose by the maximum 13 points creating a three-way tie, they would be among the top two with the district points tie-breaker. Topeka West cannot qualify for the playoffs even if a three-way tie at 1-2 results after this week. The Chargers could not have the highest district points tie-breaker in that scenario.
District 4Pittsburg’s 45-35 upset of then top-ranked Blue Valley has thrown a wrench in District 4. The Purple Dragons can qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2007 with a win over St. Thomas Aquinas and a Blue Valley loss to Gardner-Edgerton. If Blue Valley and Pittsburg both win by 13 points in Week 9, the Tigers and Dragons would both advance based on the district points tie-breaker. If Blue Valley beats Gardner-Edgerton by 8 to 12 points, then Tigers and Trailblazers would advance. Aquinas can cause an additional mess by beating the Purple Dragons, and coupled with a Gardner-Edgerton win would cause a three-way tie for the runner-up. If the Trailblazers and Saints each win by 13 points, then Gardner-Edgerton would be the undefeated district champion and Aquinas would win the points tie-breaker as the runner-up. Bottom line: this district is still wide-open.
District 5Emporia is the District 5 champion by winning two close shootouts over Newton and McPherson. The Railers and Bullpups will play in Week 9 with the winner getting the second playoff spot.
District 6 – The Hays High Indians are district champions and will return to the state playoffs for the first time since 1995. Salina South and Great Bend will meet this week with the winner advancing as the district runner-up.
District 7Andover Central will make the short trip to Wichita to take on Kapaun Mt. Carmel for the district championship. Both teams have already clinched a playoff spot.
District 8Hutchinson will travel to Bishop Carroll to decide the District 8 champion and runner-up. The Salthawks won this game last season 21-14, but the Golden Eagles got revenge with a 21-0 shutout of Hutch in the 5A state semifinals.

CLASS 4A:
District 1KC Piper’s wins over Atchison and Hiawatha is enough to crown the Pirates District 1 champions. Atchison will play at Hiawatha this week with the winner getting the runner-up playoff spot.
District 2 – The District 2 showdown is set between Basehor-Linwood and Perry-Lecompton. The Bobcats will visit the Kaws to decide which teams gets a first-round home playoff game, and which will be on the road.
District 3 – In just its second season, Blue Valley Southwest is a district champion. The Timberwolves get that honor having knocked off St. James Academy and DeSoto. The Thunder and Panthers will now battle in Week 9 to determine the second playoff spot.
District 4 – Both playoff spots will be determined as Eudora travels to Baldwin. The winner is the district champ, while the loser is the runner-up.
District 5 – Defending 4A champion Louisburg is back in the playoffs despite a 4-4 record this season. The Wildcats will play for the district championship in Week 9 when they host rival Paola. The winner gets to host a first-round playoff game, while the loser will be on the road.
District 6 Anderson County will travel to Fort Scott with the winner becoming the district champion, and the loser the runner-up.
District 7 – Nothing has been decided in District 7 as all four teams are 1-1 in district play. In Week 9, Girard travels to Chanute, while Parsons hosts Independence.
District 8Coffeyville-Field Kindley is the district champion after the Golden Tornado posted wins over Labette County and Columbus. The Grizzlies and Titans will square off this week with the winner becoming the district runner-up.
District 9Topeka Hayden is the District 9 champion by virtue of their wins over Royal Valley and Holton. The runner-up will be determined by the winner of the Royal Valley and Holton game this week.
District 10 – It’s a bit messy, but Rose Hill is the district champion. The Rockets are 2-0 with wins over Towanda Circle and AugustaEl Dorado plays Rose Hill this week. Should the Wildcats beat the Rockets by 13, and Circle beat Augusta by 13, a three-way tie would be created with Rose Hill, Circle, and El Dorado at 2-1. In that scenario, Rose Hill and Circle would also be tied in the district points tie-breaker, but the Rockets would be the champion by virtue of their 61-0 win over Circle in Week 8.
District 11 – All four teams are still alive for a playoff spot, although at 0-2, Wellington’s long playoff streak is barely hanging on. The Crusaders visit Clearwater in Week 9, while Mulvane hosts Winfield.
District 12Andale has won three straight games after beginning the season a surprising 0-5. The Indians host Maize South in Week 9 with the winner taking the district championship, and the loser the runner-up.
District 13Buhler is the district champion. Pratt travels to Haven on Friday with the winner getting the second playoff spot.
District 14Ulysses has clinched a playoff spot by virtue of district wins over Holcomb and Larned. A 13-point loss by the Tigers to Hugoton coupled with a Holcomb 13-point win could result in a three-way tie for the district lead, but the Tigers would still be among the top two in the district points tie-breaker. Ulysses hosts Hugoton in Week 9, while Larned travels to Holcomb.
District 15 – Nothing has been solidified in this district thus far. Abilene has won its first two district games over Chapman and Hesston. The Cowboys can sew up a district title with a win at Smoky Valley in Week 9. Hesston hosts Chapman in the other District 15 match-up.
District 16 – The district champion and runner-up will be decided in Concordia on Friday night as Clay Center travels to take on the Panthers. The winner is the champion and the loser is the runner-up.

CLASS 3A
District 1Caney Valley is the district champion with wins over Riverton and Galena. The Rams and Bulldogs will battle at Abbey Field in Galena on Friday night to determine the second playoff qualifier.
District 2Neodesha and Leon-Bluestem will play for a district championship in Leon on Friday. The Bluestem Lions have won three consecutive games since snapping a 29-game losing streak with a Week 6 shutout of Wichita Independent.
District 3Frontenac and Erie with decide the district champion and runner-up in their game at Erie. Northeast and Southeast have been eliminated.
District 4 – Nothing has been decided in District 4. Central Heights travels to Uniontown, and Wellsville hosts West Franklin in Week 9.
District 5Osage City is the district champion by virtue of wins over Council Grove and Burlington
The district runner-up will be decided in Week 9 with the winner of Burlington and Council Grove.
District 6 – The playoff spots are still up for grabs in District 6 as Silver Lake hosts McLouth, and Rossville travels to Pleasant Ridge. Silver Lake is 2-0 in the district after two weeks.
District 7 – The District 7 champion and runner-up will be decided this week when Effingham-Atchison County takes on Sabetha
District 8Rock Creek will travel to Riley County this week to determine both playoff spots. The winner is the district champion, and the loser is the runner-up.
District 9Southeast of Saline is the district champion after wins over Hillsboro and Marion. The winner of the Hillsboro and Marion game will be the district runner-up and earn the second playoff spot.
District 10Sedgwick is the district champion after wins over Halstead and Garden Plain. The Halstead-Garden Plain winner will advance to the playoffs as the district runner-up. Halstead beat Garden Plain 19-14 last season in district play.
District 11 – The two playoff spots from District 11 will come down to the Douglass-Wichita Collegiate game with the winner advancing as district champion, and the loser as runner-up.
District 12Conway Springs is the district champion. A three-way tie for first could occur if the Cardinals lose by 13 or more to Kingman and Medicine Lodge beats Chaparral by 13 or more, but the result would be a tie in district points between Conway Springs and Medicine Lodge. The Cardinals own the head-to-head advantage over Medicine Lodge with a 56-6 district win.
District 13 – With wins over Ellsworth and Hoisington, the Sterling Black Bears are the District 13 champion. The runner-up spot will be determined by the winner of the Ellsworth-Hoisington game in Week 9.
District 14Smith Center is the district champion with wins over Beloit and Minneapolis. The winner of Beloit and Minneapolis in Week 9 will decide the district runner-up.
District 15Phillipsburg closed out Panther Stadium with consecutive wins over Thomas More Prep and Goodland to give the Panthers the district title. Thomas More Prep and Goodland will battle in Week 9 to determine the runner-up spot.
District 16 Scott City is unbeaten and the champion of District 16. The runner-up playoff spot will be determined by the winner of the Lakin-Southwestern Heights game in Week 9.

CLASS 2-1A
District 1 St. Mary’s Colgan has clinched a playoff spot. Should the Panthers lose to Olpe in Week 9 and Lyndon win, the three teams would be tied for first in the district, but Colgan would remain in the the top two using the district points scoring system. Lyndon can clinch a playoff spot if Colgan beats Olpe this week. An Olpe win over Colgan would trigger the district points scoring system to be used to determine the two playoff participants. If Olpe beats Colgan by 12 or more points, the Eagles are district champions.
District 2Riverside is the district champion by virtue of a 20-18 win over Jefferson County North even if two would tie at 3-1. Jeff Co. North is the district runner-up. The Chargers could still lose to Immaculata in Week 9 which would force a three-way tie with the Raiders and Valley Falls at 2-2 in the district. The district points tie-breaker system would then go into effect and Jeff Co. North would still hold the points tie-breaker.
District 3St. Marys travels to Onaga in Week 9 in a key matchup in deciding the playoff qualifiers from District 3. A St. Marys win sends the Bears and Wabaunsee to the playoffs. The Chargers have already completed district play at 3-1. If Onaga wins, they will join St. Marys in the playoffs. If Onaga beats St. Marys by nine points or more, then the Buffaloes are district champions.
District 4Centralia is the district champion and Doniphan West is the runner-up. The Panthers hold the head-to-head tie breaker with the Mustangs by virtue of their 38-16 win in Week 5.
District 5Sacred Heart is the district champion and Moundridge is the runner-up. The Knights defeated the Wildcats 56-28 in Week 7 and hold the head-to-head tie-breaker between the two.
District 6Plainville will travel to LaCrosse to decide the both playoff spots in District 6. The winner is the district champion and remains unbeaten, while the loser is the runner-up.
District 7Oakley travels to Ellis to decide the two playoff spots. The winner will be the district champion, while the loser begins the playoffs on the road.
District 8Meade hosts Sublette this week in a key game to iron out the playoff qualifiers. Meade is unbeaten and will be heavily favored against Sublette who is 3-1. Stanton County is also 3-1 and will take on winless Satanta. Stanton County holds the head-to-head tie breaker over Sublette with a 56-0 win, and Meade holds the tie-breaker over Stanton County with a 34-18 win. If Meade defeats Sublette, the Buffaloes are the champions and Stanton County is the runner-up. If Sublette upsets Meade by 13 or more points and Stanton County takes care of Satanta by more than 13 things could get messy.

CLASS 8 Man-I
District 1 – After Week 8, four teams are still in contention for two playoff spots. Sedan (4-0) in the district, hosts Udall (3-1) in Week 9, while Central Burden (3-1) plays host to West Elk (2-2). If Udall upsets Sedan and Central Burden handles West Elk, the district points tie-breaker will decide both playoff spots. West Elk can only get the runner-up spot with a win over Central Burden by 14 or more points, coupled with a Udall loss by 14 or more points to Sedan.
District 2Marmaton Valley has already clinched a playoff spot by virtue of their 4-0 district start. The Wildcats will travel to Chetopa this week. If the Green Hornets win, they are the district champion with Marmaton Valley going as the runner-up. If Marmaton Valley wins, the Wildcats are the district champion, and Chetopa will have to await the results of the Pleasanton and St. Paul games. Pleasanton plays at Colony-Crest and St. Paul hosts Yates Center. If both the Blu-jays and Indians win coupled with a Chetopa loss, the three would be in a three-way tie for the runner-up and district points would decide the second playoff spot. If St. Paul and Chetopa tie for the district runner-up (assuming a Pleasanton loss), then Chetopa would holds the head-to-head advantage and will be the district runner-up. If Pleasanton and Chetopa tie for the runner-up spot (assuming a St. Paul loss), then Pleasanton would qualify as the runner-up by virtue of a 56-54 upset of Chetopa last week.
District 3Madison is the district champion by virtue of their 50-44 overtime win over Lebo. Only the Wolves can tie Madison for the best district record, but the Bulldogs hold the head-to-head advantage. If Lebo beats Marais des Cygnes Valley, the Wolves are in. White City and MdCV are tied with a 2-2 record entering Week 9. White City can only qualify for the playoffs with a win over Southern Coffey County and a Lebo loss to MdCV. Should that scenario play out, the Huskies would need to win by at least 16 points or more, and hope that Lebo loses by 21 or more points. MdCV can only qualify with a win over Lebo, coupled with a White City loss to Southern Coffey County.
District 4Lakeside-Downs is the district champion. Mankato-Rock Hills is the only team that could tie the Knights for the best district record, but Lakeside beat Rock Hills 68-22 in Week 7. Rock Hills is the district runner-up by virtue of wins over Clifton-Clyde and Wakefield – the only two teams that could tie the Grizzlies for the second-best record in the district.
District 5Macksville is the district champion by virtue of a 52-26 win over Pretty Prairie – the only team that could finish in a tie with the Mustangs in the district standings. Pretty Prairie is the runner-up. The Bulldogs have defeated the two teams, St. John and Pratt Skyline, that could finished tied with them in the district standings.
District 6South Gray has clinched a playoff spot after winning their first five district games. The Rebels host 4-1 Minneola this week in a key game, while 4-1 Ness City travels to Kinsley. South Gray holds the tie-breaker over Ness City with a 72-40 victory last week. Ness City holds the head-to-head advantage over Minneola with a 48-0 win in Week 5. If Minneola upsets South Gray by 21 or more points, and Ness City beats Kinsley by 21 or more points, then South Gray and Ness City would tie with 84 district points. South Gray would be the champion and Ness City the runner-up. Minneola can only claim a playoff spot with a win and a Ness City loss in Week 9.
District 7Osborne travels to Quinter in a game that will decide both playoff spots. The winner will be the district champion, while the loser will qualify as the runner-up. If Osborne wins, Quinter would fall to 4-2 in district play an into a tie with Hoxie, but the Bulldogs hold the head-to-head advantage over the Indians with a 34-18 win in Week 7. Hoxie has completed district play at 4-2.
District 8Central Plains is the district champion in its inaugural season. The Oilers have won their first five district games, and travel to Solomon in Week 9. Little River hosts Lincoln in the other game key in deciding the runner-up spot. Little River can claim the second playoff spot with a win, while Lincoln gets the runner-up spot with a win and a Solomon loss. Should Lincoln and Solomon both win, they will force a three-way tie for second with Little River and the district points tie-breaker will be enacted.

CLASS 8 Man-II
District 1 – Top-ranked Baileyville B&B is the district champion with a perfect 4-0 mark.  Frankfort claimed the runner-up spot with a 44-30 victory over Hanover in Week 8. Hanover will miss the state playoffs for the first time since 2005 when the Wildcats finished 2-7.
District 2Hope is the district champion. The Lions are unbeaten in district play and hold the head-to-head tie-breaker over Linn with a 42-32 win in Week 6. Linn is the runner-up and has qualified for the playoffs for the first time in at least the last eight seasons.
District 3 – Two games will help decide the District 3 playoff qualifiers. Waverly (3-0) will travel to Flinthills (2-1), while Centre-Lost Springs (2-1) will host Hartford (1-2). Waverly has already clinched a playoff spot, but if the Bulldogs win they are district champions. Should Waverly lose, they would still be in the top two in the district points tie-breaker system. Flinthills can claim the district title with a win over Waverly coupled with a Centre loss to Hartford. If Flinthills and Centre both win, the Mustangs and Cougars will be tied for the district lead with Waverly, and the district points tie-breaker will be used to determine both playoff spots. If Flinthills and Centre both win by the maximum 21 points, Waverly and Centre would tie with 42 district points each, but the Bulldogs would be the district champs by virtue of their 76-36 win over the runner-up Cougars in Week 7. Hartford’s chance to qualify involves the Jaguars beating Centre and Waverly beating Flinthills. Hartford really needs to beat Centre by 18 or more points to finish ahead of the Cougars in the district tie-breaker system. That coupled with a Flinthills loss to Waverly by 11 or more points will give the Jaguars the runner-up spot. You may see different records and district points totals for this district in other publications. We have removed Elk Valley from the equation because they did not compete in districts, although others may take into account scheduled games with the Lions as forfeits.
District 4South Haven is the district champion after winning their first five district games. The Cardinals can finish in a tie with South Barber at 5-1, but South Haven holds the head-to-head tie-breaker over the Chieftains with a 50-30 victory in Week 7. South Barber has clinched the runner-up by virtue of their 50-0 shutout win over Caldwell.
District 5Otis-Bison is the district champion as the Cougars went unbeaten in district play. Chase travels to Stafford in Week 9 to decide the final playoff spot. If Chase wins, the Kats are the district runner-up. If Stafford wins, a three-way tie would be created between Chase, Stafford, and Cunningham. Based on the points tie-breaker, Stafford needs to defeat Chase by 19 or more points to claim the runner-up spot.
District 6Ashland is the district champion after rolling through District 6 undefeated. Moscow is the district runner-up by virtue of their 64-14 win over Dighton in Week 6.
District 7Cheylin is the district champion as the Cougars hold wins over both Sharon Springs-Wallace County and Grinnell-Wheatland in district play. The Wildcats and Thunderhawks will meet this week in Sharon Springs with the winner qualifying as the district runner-up.
District 8 – Second-ranked Thunder Ridge hosts Victoria to determine both playoff qualifiers. The winner will be crowned District 8 champion, and the loser the runner-up.
