Week 5 produced little change in the Kpreps Top 5 Rankings.

The Class 6A rankings remained unchanged as top-ranked Wichita Heights ran past Wichita Northwest, 41-21.

The only close games involving ranked teams included Olathe East’s 28-21 win over Shawnee Mission West, and Olathe South holding off Olathe Northwest 44-41 after falling behind by 20 points early on.

The win by Jeff Gourley’s Falcons sets up a Week 6 showdown against #2 Olathe North.

The top five teams in Class 5A remained unchanged as no one really had any trouble in Week 5. The Eastern Kansas League showdown between Bishop Miege and St. Thomas Aquinas was close for a half before the Stags turned in three defensive scores in the second half to overcome the Saints, 48-24. Aquinas had led Miege 18-13 at halftime. It was Miege’s first win over Aquinas since 2007.

Class 4A saw a little change as last week’s fourth-ranked team Paola fell on the road to Eudora 18-10. As a result, the Panthers drop out of the 4A poll, and in steps the Basehor-Linwood Bobcats. The Bobcats are unbeaten, but face a stiff challenge in Week 6 when they travel to take on undefeated Mill Valley.

The Ulysses Tigers are up to #4 this week in the 4A poll, just in time for their showdown with 3A’s third-ranked Scott City Beavers in Week 6.

The Top five in Class 3A remains unchanged as all five teams posted double-digit wins. The closest game involved #5 Silver Lake, which held off Rock Creek 13-3 to give Coach C.J. Hamilton his state record breaking 336th career win.

The battle of ranked teams in Class 2-1A went to the defending champs as top-ranked Meade knocked off then #3 Stanton County, 34-16. The Trojans fell one spot to #4 this week, bumping Plainville up to the third-ranked team in the state. LaCrosse remains ranked fifth with a 42-13 win over Sacred Heart.

The top five in 8-Man Division I remained the same as only Osborne gave up points this week. The Bulldogs outscored last season’s state runners-up Hill City, 68-36.

Lakeside-Downs had perhaps the most impressive win in shutting out traditional power Clifton-Clyde 68-0 in a game that ended at halftime.

In 8-Man Division II, Hanover dropped out of our top five poll after being beaten 90-52 by unbeaten Pawnee City (Neb.). The Wildcats are now 3-2 on the season after falling 26-6 to Thunder Ridge in Week 2.

Replacing the Wildcats in the Top 5 is South Barber who shutout Caldwell, 50-0. The Cheiftains lone loss of the year came 24-22 to Pretty Prairie in Week 4.

Ashland is up one spot to #4 after beating Dighton 52-24 in what was a battle of unbeatens in District 6.
