In our Picks to Click, we feature several players or units from across the state that we feel will have breakout performances on Friday night.
This season, we’ve assembled a team of media members across the state to each select one player (or unit) each week. We will track the cumulative statistics of our selections throughout the season similar to fantasy scoring.
Picks to Click contributors for the 2026 season include: Dion Clisso (PrepsKC.com); Matt Gilmore (Kpreps.com); Brent Maycock (KSHSAA Covered); and Conor Nicholl (Kpreps.com).
Check back next Thursday to see our picks for Week 7, and how the players performed that we picked the week prior. See the bottom of this article for details.
Gavin Larson, WR, Hesston (Maycock)
Larson has emerged as a big-time target for Swather quarterback Jerick Humphreys this season as Hesston has gotten off to a 5-0 start. His 33 catches are double anyone else on the team and his 583 yards are more than the rest of the receiving corps combined. Larson's 11 TD catches lead the state and he's had at least two TD grabs in every game this season. He's averaging 116.6 yards per game and 17.7 yards per catch.
Landen Lewis, QB, Rossville (Gilmore)
Lewis (6-0, 180) has stepped in as a first-year starter and thrived in Rossville’s quarterback-centric offense. The junior signal-caller has completed nearly 70 percent of his passes for 831 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding 572 rushing yards and 12 more touchdowns on the ground. Lewis and the Bulldawgs begin district play against Wabaunsee in their final home game of the season. Rossville has posted wins in consecutive weeks over Reno County Homeschool (43-7) and Royal Valley (47-20).
Mill Valley Offensive Line (Clisso)
Top-ranked Mill Valley won its first five games by an average score of 46.6 to 16.2. The Jaguar offense is led by a solid group up front that paves the way for Max Piva and protects Holden Applebee. The line has helped produce more than 300 yards per game on the ground and nearly 174 yards per game in the air. The Jaguar offensive line consists of Quinn Vaka, Jamey Day, Tatum Wash, Emmitt Loch, Jaxon Harris, Stone Wiegman, Barrett Enemark and Will Marten. That group will look to dominate the trenches when the Jaguars take on a 4-1 Shawnee Mission North team in Week 6.
Josiah Pattangall, RB, Oberlin-Decatur Community (Nicholl)
Pattangall has been a leader in the Decatur Community backfield for the past two seasons. As a junior last fall, Pattangall rushed for 1,400 yards and 19 touchdowns on 215 carries. As a sophomore in 2024, he rushed for 1,285 yards and 17 scores. In last Friday’s 58-12 win over Oakley, Pattangall carried 25 times for 228 yards and four touchdowns. This week he’ll look to lead the fifth-ranked Red Devils into a tough environment to take on Hoxie.
