Week 4 did not disappoint. The week loaded with big games lived up to its billing as several match-ups involving ranked teams were decided by single digits with two going into overtime.

The game with the biggest impact on our Top 5 poll took place in Class 3A where Garden Plain slipped past then top-ranked Conway Springs, 19-13 in overtime. As a result, the Owls take over the top spot in the Class 3A rankings.

Conway Springs falls one spot to #2, while Scott City is down one spot to #3.

Beloit moves up one spot to #4 thanks to an 80-21 thrashing of Larned, and Silver Lake falls to #5 after falling 14-13 at Louisburg.

There is also a new #1 in Class 6A as defending champion Wichita Heights overtakes Olathe North for the top spot.

The Falcons gashed Great Bend 55-14 in Week 4, while Olathe North remained unbeaten with a 56-21 win over Shawnee Mission South.

These two appear on a collision course to meet in Topeka to decide the state championship for the third consecutive year.

Olathe South enters the 6A rankings at #5 after a 29-21 win over Shawnee Mission East on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons are unbeaten and have outscored opponents by an average of 33.5 to 15.8 thus far this season.

Blue Valley remains atop the Class 5A poll after holding off #3 Bishop Miege 24-21. Miege remains in the #3 spot despite the loss, just behind second-ranked Hutchinson.

A familiar face returns to the 5A rankings at #5 as Bishop Carroll rejoins the poll after handling Wichita Northwest 31-7. Wichita Northwest was ranked #5 in the Class 6A poll one week ago.

The top five in Class 4A remained unchanged, but not untested.

Top-ranked Topeka Hayden survived a 21-14 overtime game with Washburn Rural. After scoring first in overtime, the Wildcat defense held Rural out of the end zone on third and fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line to preserve the win.

Holton, Buhler, and Paola remain in the #2 through #4 spots after pitching shutouts in Week 4, and #5 Ulysses won at Hoisington, 34-13.

The top five in Class 2-1A remained intact thanks to wins by #2 St. Mary’s Colgan and #4 Plainville over solid 3A playoff contenders.

Plainville scored a dramatic 30-23 win at Smith Center, while Colgan pulled away late for a 31-2 win over Galena.

In 8-Man Division II, #2 Thunder Ridge shutout #3 Otis-Bison in the second half en route to a 44-18 win.

Otis-Bison led 18-16 at halftime, but managed very little offensive output after star running back Dylan Wissman went out with a concussion early in the third quarter.

Hanover remains at #4 after dispatching of Linn 32-8. The Wildcats will take on unbeaten Pawnee City (Neb.) in Week 5.

Ashland remains in the #5 spot after hammering Fowler, 62-6. The Blue Jays will get a test from the speedy Guy Fullmer and Dighton in Week 5.

In 8-Man Division I, four of the top five registered big shutout wins. Only #4 Osborne was tested as the Bulldogs got another big game from running back Damon Schurr to slip past Hoxie, 42-38.
