Kansas falls to Nebraska in Hays

HAYS, KS - In what turned out to be a defensive battle, the Kansas 8 Man All Stars were unable to overcome early adversity and fell to Nebraska in the fourth annual border battle.

Nebraska took advantage of two errant snaps in the first quarter which resulted in a safety and a touchdown.

Nebraska lead 9-0 after the first quarter and 16-0 at halftime.

The Kansas All-Stars fought hard in the second half scoring on a pair of short touchdown runs by Daniel Krehbiel. However, they were unable to overcome early mistakes and fell to 1-3 in the overall series.

The final score was 23-12.

MVPs for Kansas were Krehbiel on offense and Dylan Barnard (Madison) on defense. MVPs for Nebraska were Dwight Hanzel (Humphrey) on offense and Cory Brester (Howells) on defense.

The fourth annual Kansas vs. Nebraska 8-Man All-Star Game returns to Hays this weekend.

Former University of Kansas and Chicago Bears star Gale Sayers will get the event kicked off in style as the keynote speaker at a banquet for both teams, Wednesday, June 22.

The All-Stars from the neighboring states will play at Fort Hays State University's Lewis Field, Saturday, June 25, at 7 p.m.

Nebraska holds a 2-1 advantage in the series with a dominant 58-20 victory over Kansas at Crete, Neb., last June.

Smoky Hills Public Television will be on-hand for the game and plans to run a recorded version of the contest July 6 at 7 p.m.
