Breaking down the rankings:
6A
Wichita South remains the #1 team in 6A girls. South is undefeated against 6A competition on the year and their only loss came before the holiday break to 5A Kapaun. Olathe South (2), Manhattan (3), Blue Valley North (4) and Maize (5) round out this week’s top five.
5A
Salina Central girls remain perfect on the year and hold on to this week’s top spot in 5A girls. This classification is starting to look more and more loaded as the season goes on. Rounding out this week’s top five are Leavenworth (2), Aquinas (3), Kapaun (4) and Great Bend (5).
4A-I
Defending state champion Wamego leads the way once again at the top spot. The Red Raiders haven’t lost a basketball game in over a year (January 19th of 2013 to Hillsboro by one). Miege (2), Hayden (3), Paola (4) and Andover Central (5) round out this week’s top five.
4A-II
Defending 3A state champion Burlington remains the number one team in 4A-II girls this season. The Wildcats only loss on the season came to the hand of 4A-II Louisburg. Santa Fe Trail, who won the first ever 4A-II volleyball title, remains at the two spot this week. Frontenac at the four spot is a team to watch out for after knocking off 4A-II #9 Coffeyville by 21 last Friday. The Raiders (16-2) are led by a trio of seniors (Bailey Flora, Ryleigh McCartney, & Haley Wilson) who all average in double figures.
3A
Hesston remains atop of the 3A girls classification and only have lost once on the season (4A-I #1 Wamego). The Swathers are winning on average by 27.5 points per game. Rounding out this week’s top five are Riley County (2), Holcomb (3), Chapman (4) and Cheney (5).
2A
Jeff County North, who took second last season, is again ranked at the top spot in 2A girls. The Chargers have been paced by the play of senior all-state selection Jacee Kramer. Other teams to make this week’s top five are Central Plains (2), Sterling (3), Moundridge (4) and Olpe (5). The Oilers of Central Plains, who remain perfect, have been dominating opponents by winning each contest by an average of 28.7 points.
1A-I
Two-time defending state champion Hoxie remains at the top spot in 1A-I this week. Hoxie hasn’t lost a girls basketball game since the 2012 season. Valley Heights (2), Thunder Ridge (3), MDCV (4) and Osborne (5) also are top five teams in this week’s 1A-I rankings.
1A-II
Baileyville B&B remains the top team in 1A-II girls this season. B&B won state volleyball this past fall and will try to win a state title for basketball in its last season ever as a school, before they consolidate with Nemaha Valley. Golden Plains (2), Dighton (3), Triplains/Brewster (4) and Ingalls (5) are the other teams to be ranked in this week’s top five.
