Breaking down the rankings:

6A

Wichita South, who won all of 6A last season, is once again the top team in this week’s 6A rankings. Olathe East (9), who plays in the Sunflower League, is the only new team to this week’s ranking.

5A

Salina Central (15-0) remains perfect on the season and remains atop of this classification. Central will play 5A #6 Andover on Thursday. Blue Valley Southwest makes its debut in the 5A rankings at the nine spot.

4A-I

Wamego (16-0) won all of 4A last season and looks to be in the driver’s seat to do so again this season. The Red Raiders haven’t been challenged in nearly a month, but will face a ranked opponent this week in 4A-II #8 Concordia on Friday. As expected, Bishop Miege (2) and Topeka-Hayden (3) have been moving up all season. Both schools play in leagues (Eastern Kansas League, Centennial League) with 5A/6A opponents.

4A-II

With this being a brand new division it could be wide open. Burlington (1) and Santa Fe Trail (2) seem to be the two everyone thinks to become the first ever champion in this classification. The two have played each other last month, with Burlington coming out on top. Hugoton (3), Frontenac (4) and Clearwater (5) round out this week’s top five.

3A

Hesston (1) and Riley County (2) seem to be the two that everyone is talking about at this point of the year in 3A.  Both teams have one thing in common as they only feature one loss, a loss to 4A-I #1 Wamego in the Hillsboro tournament.

2A

#1 Jefferson County North seems to be the front runner at this point of the season. The Chargers are winning ever game by an average of 40.9 points per contest. A big reason for that is Emporia State signee in all-state guard Jacee Kramer (22 PPG). JC North won state in 2012 and took second last season in 2A. Ellis (9) and Hillsboro (10) move into the top 10 this week.

1A-I

Hoxie won it all in 1A-I last season and remain at the top spot this season. Valley Heights (2), Thunder Ridge (3), MDCV (4) and Osborne (5) round out this week’s top five. No new teams to this week’s top 10 but a little bit of movement within them.

1A-II

Baileyville B&B remains at the top spot in this week’s 1A-II ranking. B&B is in it’s season as a school as it will consolidate with Nemaha Valley next season to form Nemaha Central. The Falcons won state in 1A-II volleyball this past season, while the football team won the 8M-II title in its last season ever.. No new teams to this week’s top ten.
