Breakdown of Rankings by Classification:
6A
Olathe East remains atop of the 6A boys classification for the second consecutive week. East has a huge test on Tuesday against defending 5A champion and the current 6A #7 team in Shawnee Mission South. Caelan Neal and Liberty signee Ezra Talbert combine for over 30 points per contest for Olathe East. Lawrence remains at the two spot, while Defending 6A state champion, Blue Valley Northwest, is at number three.
5A
Lansing becomes the number one team in 5A for the first time all season. Three teams have been ranked number one on the season at this point in Highland Park, then Hays, and now Lansing. KC Washington is the only new team to move into this week’s top 10.
4A-I
At the beginning of the year we thought this division would be wide open due to movement of classifications and loss of some valuable seniors. It seems to be still that way. Defending 4A champion Ottawa, who lost almost all of their scoring from last year, moves back into the top five this week at #5. Fellow Frontier member, Baldwin, remains at number one this week. McPherson remains at number two and only features one loss, which was to a 6A opponent in Wichita North. All-State junior, Kyler Kinnamon (18.0 ppg, 6.3 assists), has paced the Bullpups all season long.
4A-II
Holton (4) is the only new team to move into the top five of this week’s 4A-II rankings. This division is beginning to look more loaded as the season progresses. Scott City remains atop of this brand new classification behind the play of junior all-state selection Trey O’Neil (23.8 ppg). Eudora (3) is a team to look out for behind the play of brothers, Andrew and Mitchell Ballock.
3A
Council Grove (4) moves into the top five for the first time all season. The Braves (15-0) are led by senior Aaron Bachura (24.1 ppg) and Layton Leydig (16.5 ppg). Bachura, a 6-foot-1 senior, has hit 57 three point shots (46%) in 15 games this season. Hesston remains at the top spot in this classification once again. With some teams moving to different classifications this season, 3A could be wide open for a lot of teams to compete for that state title.
2A
We have talked all year about this loaded division, but St. John is the clear front runner at this point. Junior all state selection, Dean Wade (22.1 ppg), is being talked about as a major recruit at the Division I level. Zuriel Reyes has also put up 16.8 points per game on the year, while senior Kade Kinnamon has been the floor general for this team that is beating opponents on average by 32.6 points per contest. Central Plains is another team to watch for and all three of their losses this season have came to St. John. Also look for Colgan, who is ranked eighth, as they are still undefeated against Kansas opponents on the year.
1A-I
MDCV remains at the top of this division once again. MDCV is coming off a 10 point victory over 1A-II #6 Baileyville B&B on Friday. Hanover (2), Hoxie (3), Valley Heights (4), and Stockton (5) round out this week’s top five.
1A-II
Beloit- St. Johns Tipton remains at the number one spot in this week’s rankings. Three players average in double figures for the Bluejays on the season in Connor Eilert, Luke Eilert and Trey Dubbert. They will face the seventh ranked team in 1A-II, Sylvan-Lucas, on Tuesday. South Barber (2), Wallace County (3), Fowler (4) and Axtell (5) round out this week’s top five of 1A-II.
