The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA), Kpreps.Com (@kpreps), and Kansas-Sports.Com (@sportsinkansas) will be in partnership all season to release the KBCA rankings every Monday.
6A
Wichita South, who won 6A last season, remains at the top of this classification. South is led by sophomore all-stater Kendrian Elliott. Olathe South (2), Blue Valley North (3), Manhattan (4) and Maize (5) round out this week’s top five.
5A
Kapaun remains at the number one spot in girls 5A and has done so behind junior Sam Bachrodt and senior Sydney Kuhn. Aquinas, who won 5A last season, is at the two spot, while Salina Central sits at number three. It doesn’t look like there is much separation from the top three spots in this classification.
4A-I
Defending 4A champion, Wamego, remains atop of this classification after winning the Hillsboro Tournament this past week. The Red Raiders would knock off the top two teams in 3A in back-to-back games (Hesston, Riley County). #2 Bishop Miege has been climbing the rankings all season and are a serious contender in this division. Miege plays in a 5A/6A league and will use that to their advantage in this classification. Fort Scott, who lost to Blue Valley Southwest last week in the Kansas National Guard Tourney, sits at the number three spot. #6 Topeka-Hayden should be a contender in this class as they would win the Basheor-Linwood tourney by beating St. Joe Benton (MO) in the title game (43-33).
4A-II
Burlington, who won 3A last season, would win its own tournament last week and knocked off previously top ranked Santa Fe Trail in the semis. Santa Fe Trail drops to the two spot after their loss. Hugoton (3), Frontenac (4) and Clearwater (5) round out this week’s top five.
3A
Hesston (semifinals) and Riley County (championship) would both fall to 4A-I power Wamego in the Hillsboro Tournament last week. Those losses will help in the development of both of those teams over the course of this season. Holcomb (3), Cimmaron (4), and Douglass (5) are the othere three teams to this week's top five.
2A
Jeff County North, behind the play of all-stater Jacee Kramer, remains at the number one spot for the second consecutive week. Sterling (2), Central Plains (3), Ellinwood (4) and Wabaunsee (5) round out this week’s top five.
1A-I
Defending state champion, Hoxie, remains at the top spot in this division and are dominating opponents by winning with an average margin of 33.8 points per contest. Valley Heights (2), MDCV (3), Spearville (4) and Thunder Ridge (5) are this weeks top five.
1A-II
Baileyville B&B remains atop of the 1A-II division in its last season ever as a school. The Falcons also won state volleyball this past fall. B&B will consolidate with Nemaha Valley next year to form Nemaha Central. Dighton (2), Triplains/Brewster (3), Norwich (4) and Golden Plains (5) are this week’s top five of 1A-II.
