Not much has changed in the 6A boys top five besides Lawrence moving into the fifth spot to take over cross-town rival Free State. #6 Free State, previously ranked fifth, fell to Lawrence 67-48 on December 20th. Defending 6A state champion, Blue Valley Northwest, remains at #1, despite losing to Apple Valley (MN) on Jan 4th, who is ranked #1 in the state of Minnesota.

Highland Park, who took second in 4A in 2013, remains atop of 5A boys. Goddard-Eisenhower, previously ranked third, is paced by all-stater Trevon Evans (23.3 ppg) and takes over the number two spot. Lansing, previously ranked second, moves down two spots to #4, but didn’t lose. The only new team to the top five this week is Leavenworth in at the five spot.

McPherson and Coffeyville-Field Kindley both moved up to take the top two spots in this brand new division for 2013-14. McPherson has been led by junior all-stater Kyler Kinnamon (21.0 ppg), while Coffeyville by multi-sport all-stater James Newton (21.3 ppg). Basheor-Linwood, previously ranked first, moved down to the fifth spot this week. Defending 4A champion, Ottawa, goes from unranked to making the top five at the fifth spot. A key Frontier League match-up this week will take place between #3 Baldwin and fifth ranked 4A-II member Eudora. Four Frontier League Teams are ranked in this week’s top 10 (Baldwin, Ottawa, Spring Hill, Paola).

No shake up in the top three teams as Andale, Scott City, and Holton all remain atop of the 4A-II rankings. Kind of sounds like we are talking football, as all three teams had very respectable seasons. Andale has been dominating before break, winning by an average of 21 points per contest. Scott, the three-time defending state champion in 3A, is very familiar with playing larger opponents and shouldn’t have to adjust much to play at the 4A-II level. Eudora moves into the top five this week in the fifth spot, while Concordia moves up one spot to number four.

Eureka, previously number 10, is the only new team to move into the top five this week. Collegiate, Hesston, Silver Lake all remain in the top three, while Nemaha Valley moved out of the top five to the nine spot. Sabetha (7), who beat Nemaha Valley on Friday, and Council Grove (8) are two new teams to the rankings this week.

Defending 1A-1 state champion, St. John, remains atop of the boys 2A rankings. Dean Wade (20.8) and Zuriel Reyes (18.5) lead the Tigers in scoring on the season. They are dominating opponents by outscoring them 38.2 points per game on the season. St. Mary’s-Colgan holds on to the two spot and probably plays the toughest schedule in all of 2A. The Panthers have two wins over Missouri schools (Carl Junction, McDonald County) who would be classified as 5A in Kansas by enrollment. Hillsboro is the only new team to the top five this week, while Meade dropped down to the sixth spot with a loss to Cimmaron (12/17).

Fairfield, who is ranked fourth, is the only new team to shake up this week’s top five in 1A-I. Stockton, previously fourth, moves out of the top five and down to the eight spot with their loss to #7 Victoria on December 19th. The top three remains exactly the same with MDCV, Valley Heights and Centralia. Just a little bit of movement overall in this class, but no new teams to this week’s top ten.

Wallace County and Beloit-St. Johns Tipton remain at the top two spots in 1A-II. Fowler moves up a spot to three, while B&B moves down two spots to number five with their loss to 1A-I #10 Hanover on Friday. Fourth ranked South Barber is the only new team to the top five this week. Ashland, losses to Fowler & South Central, moved down a spot and out of the top five to number six. Attica, ranked eighth, and Otis-Bison, ranked tenth, are brand new to this week’s top ten.
