Garden City won one game last year and two in 2024. Tatum Heavner has passed for more than 1,700 yards, while Mackoy Hemmert leads with more than 600 receiving yards. Both pace the WAC, per conference statistician Dustin Armbruster. Wichita East sophomore CT McGill has thrown for more than 880 yards this year. These two teams met last week with Garden City building a two-score lead and holding off Wichita East, 28-27. Garden City should continue a nice season and is a slight favorite.

Highlighted Games:

#10 Blue Valley North (3-5) at #7 Topeka Seaman (5-3) – Blue Valley North

There may be some points scored in this one. Blue Valley North travels to Topeka Seaman in a matchup of two of the state’s top passing quarterbacks. Quarterback Ethan O’Hara has passed for 2,101 yards and 14 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. Colton Nichols is the Mustangs’ leading receiver with 679 yards and seven touchdowns, while Wes Riegel has 478 yards and a score on 33 catches. On the other side, Cale Ketter has been one among the state’s top passers all season. Ketter has completed 62 percent of his attempts of 2,254 yards and 29 touchdowns while also having thrown 10 interceptions. While O’Hara is able to spread the ball around to several teammates for Blue Valley North, Ketter relies on back Quinn Moravec and wide out Coy Barta. Moravec has rushed for 904 yards and seven touchdowns, while Barta has 58 receptions for 1,011 yards and 11 scores.

4A EAST

Highlighted Games:

#11 Ottawa (4-4) at #6 Independence (6-2) – Ottawa

Independence and Ottawa met just a few weeks ago in Ottawa on October 9th. In that meeting, Ottawa built a two-score least in the first half only to see Independence outscored the Cyclones 12-0 in the second half to pick up a big 18-14 road win. Kaeson Lewis rushed 32 times for a team-high 148 yards and Javen Colbert added 77 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 15 attempts. Colbert also passed for 103 yards and a touchdown that went to Reece Reichenberger. For the season, Lewis has put up incredible numbers having rushed for 1,275 yards and 13 touchdowns on 178 attempts. Independence has posted a 6-2 mark after having posted a 3-6 season a year ago. The Bulldogs have won five consecutive games after back-to-back losses to Augusta and Fort Scott early in the season. Ottawa has shown some inconsistency having alternated losses and wins going back the past five weeks. Following the loss to Indy, Ottawa rebounded with an impressive upset of Louisburg, 22-20 before being shut out 21-0 by Tonganoxie last week. Ottawa did a decent job of limiting Lewis in the first meeting – something that is paramount if they want to keep their season alive.

Senior Cooper Ohnmacht, a Kansas State commit, has 960 all-purpose yards. Kale Kern leads the defense with nine TFLs. Great Bend has played relatively turnover-free all year and is plus-10 in turnover margin, which could be the difference. Mulvane has 12 turnovers and is even in turnover margin.
