Class 6A
1-Blue Valley Northwest 62, KC Harmon 0 – Northwest scored 35 points in the first quarter in rolling past Harmon. Five different Huskies scored touchdowns in the decisive opening quarter and nine different players scored in the game. Grant Stubblefield eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the season with two carries for 36 yards and a touchdown against Harmon. Blue Valley Northwest will host Olathe South in the next round.
8-Olathe South 17, #9 Blue Valley North 13 – Olathe South scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Noernberg to Erwin Nash with under two minutes remaining to top Blue Valley North, 17-13. Noernberg was flushed out to the right and dropped the ball off to Nash about 15-yards down field and he eluded a tackler on his way to the end zone. The Falcons other touchdown came on a 78-yard punt return for a score by Zane Hall. Blue Valley North quarterback Henry Martin ended his outstanding career with a pair of touchdown passes. Last year’s state runners-up, Blue Valley North lost six consecutive games to end this season.
4-Olathe North 42, 13-Olathe East 14 – Olathe North scored 21 points in each half in eliminating rival Olathe East. Noah Palmer completed 13 of 19 pass attempts for 191 yards and three touchdowns for the Eagles. Palmer connected with Jacob Parrish on a pair of touchdowns and Michael Canseco on the other. Parrish caught five passes for 107 yards and added 31 yards rushing. Palmer led the Eagle ground game with 69 yards and two scores.
5-Olathe Northwest 42, 12-Shawnee Mission East 28 – Olathe Northwest outscored Shawnee Mission East 14-0 in the third quarter to break open a 21-21 halftime tie and held on for a 42-28 win. Eric Butler rushed for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass for Northwest. Brett Dechant also rushed for a pair of scores. This is the third playoff win in school history for Olathe Northwest and the second in as many seasons.
2-Blue Valley 31, 15-Shawnee Mission South 13 – Blue Valley built a 24-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 31-13 win over Shawnee Mission South. Michael Solomon led the Tigers with 168 yards and a score, while Greyson Holbert added 91 rush yards and two touchdowns. Holbert also passed for 126 yards including a touchdown pass to Andre Davis. Mason Close rushed for a score and passed for another to account for the Raiders’ points.
7-Blue Valley West 38, #10 Shawnee Mission West 18 – Sage Huffman rushed for a pair of touchdowns as Blue Valley West built an early lead and held off Shawnee Mission West. Huffman’s 55-yard sprint gave the Jaguars a 17-6 lead in the second quarter. Gage Roach tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the second half as the Jaguars maintained their lead. Mehki Knight rushed for two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Noah Gunion to account for the Vikings’ scores.
3-Olathe West 38, 14-Shawnee Mission North 6 – Anthony Favrow rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns as Olathe West rolled to a 38-6 win over Shawnee Mission North. Junior quarterback Mason McGavran added 81 yards rushing and two scores and tossed a touchdown pass to Favrow. Senior Lewie McMullen connected on a 37-yard field goal and went 5 for 5 on PATs.
6-Shawnee Mission Northwest 62, 11-KC Wyandotte 7 – Northwest scored 55 points in the first half in cruising past Wyandotte. Jack Meylan rushed for a pair of touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass from Blake Reeder. The Cougars also got a kickoff return for a touchdown by Mason Clark and a punt return for a score by Malik O’Atis.
6A – WEST
1-Derby 63, 16-Wichita Southeast 9 – After two early Derby touchdowns, Southeast’s Kanye Brown broke an 81-yard touchdown run to pull the Golden Buffaloes within 14-6, but they wouldn’t stay close long. Derby exploded for 49 points in the first quarter in rolling to a 63-9 victory. Dylan Edwards rushed for three touchdowns and returned a punt 95 yards for another score. Mercer Thatcher also threw a pair of touchdown passes for the Panthers.
8-Wichita East 24, 9-Garden City 7 – Wichita East defeated Garden City for the second time this season. The Blue Aces scored on a long kickoff return for a touchdown from Cash McCreary. McCreary also rushed for a touchdown. Quarterback DaeOnte Mitchell threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Caquoy Patterson. Wichita East defeated Garden City 50-7 back in Week 6.
4-Washburn Rural 52, 13-Wichita West 7 – Washburn Rural scored 49 points in the first half in eliminating Wichita West, 52-7. Quarterback Branton DeWeese completed 9 of 11 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Junior Blues’ offense. Kason Williams rushed for a team-high 59 yards and two scores and J.C. Heim added a rushing touchdown and a receiving score. Zavion Parkes-Clarke led the Pioneers with 133 yards on the ground.
5-Lawrence Free State 49, 12-Wichita South 22 – Free State led 35-0 at halftime and knocked out Wichita South, 49-22. Quarterback Jet Dineen passed for 318 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Brown had nine receptions for 138 yards and Jake Patchen added six for 136 yards. Brown caught two touchdown passes and Patchen the other. Dash Cleveland also added a pair of rushing touchdowns. Wichita South’s T.J. Neal passed for 290 yards and two touchdowns in the game.
2-Manhattan 64, 15-Wichita North 6 – Manhattan scored 52 points in the first half in beating Wichita North. Vinny Smith rushed for four touchdowns in the first half. Ian McNabb added three rushing touchdowns as Manhattan pulled away.
10-Gardner-Edgerton 41, 7-Dodge City 20 – After falling behind 13-0 early, Gardner-Edgerton rallied for 20 consecutive points in the second quarter and eventually held off Dodge City, 41-20. The Trailblazers led 20-13 at halftime and extended that lead to 27-13 after three quarters. Gardner-Edgerton has now won four of its last five games and will travel to Manhattan next week.
3-Junction City 35, 14-Haysville-Campus 17 – Junction City doubled-up Campus to advance to the next round where they will host Lawrence. Campus was threatening to score early but fumbled at the 1-yard line. Randall Banks took a handoff on the next play and weaved 99 yards for a Junction City touchdown. Xavion Felton added a pair of second-quarter rushing touchdowns to give the Blue Jays a 21-3 halftime lead. Campus pulled to within 21-9 in the third quarter, but Felton and Banks each added rushing scores in the fourth for a 35-9 lead.
6-Lawrence 37, 11-Topeka High 7 – Lawrence topped Topeka High 37-7 in a game that saw all but three points scored in the first half. The Chesty Lions led 34-7 at halftime on the strength of three Truman Juelsgaard touchdown passes. Juelsgaard also broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run. Both of Baylor Bowen’s catches went for touchdowns covering 96 total yards.

5A – East
1-Mill Valley 38, 16-Topeka Highland Park 0 – Mill Valley defeated Highland Park in a game that was called final with around three minutes left in the first half due to a serious injury to a Highland Park player. Tristan Baker rushed for 136 yards and a pair of scores for the Jaguars, while Reice Kennedy and Kendrick Jones also scored rushing touchdowns.
8-Shawnee Heights 34, 9-KC Sumner Academy 0 – Shawnee Heights won its fourth straight contest and picked up a second consecutive shutout. The T-Birds got on the board with a pair of touchdown runs by Jarin Sanders to lead 13-0 at halftime. Jacob Malcomm added a touchdown run in the third quarter to push the lead to three scores.
4-Topeka Seaman 57, 13-Emporia 6 – Topeka Seaman defeated Emporia for a second time this season behind a big performance from Camden Barta. Barta passed for 318 yards and four touchdowns and added 87 yards rushing and another score for the Vikings. Seaman beat Emporia 22-6 earlier this season.
12-Blue Valley Southwest 37, 5-Leavenworth 7 – Blue Valley Southwest defeated Leavenworth for the second time this season. The Timberwolves scored two touchdowns in each of the second and third quarters to pull away. After a first-quarter safety, Dylan Dunn connected with Zach Atkins on a touchdown and Jake Laurie added a scoring run for a 16-0 halftime lead. Laurie added two more touchdowns in the third quarter to expand the lead to 30-0.
2-Spring Hill 64, 15-KC Schlagle 6 – Spring Hill rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 64-6 victory over Schlagle. The Broncos turned a great game on defense and special teams. Zach Knowlton started the scoring with a punt return for a touchdown. The Broncos also blocked a punt for a touchdown, got a safety on an errant Schlagle punt snap, recovered a fumble for a touchdown, and Carter Meade returned an interception for a score. Meade and Knowlton also added touchdown runs.
7-St. Thomas Aquinas 48, 10-KC Washington 17 – Aquinas scored 35 points in the first quarter in dispatching of Washington, 48-17. Sean Carroll scored a pair of touchdowns and five other Saints rushed for one score each including Austin Turner, Jake Sheeley, Gavin Middendorf, Jeremiah Penney, and Grant Kelley.
3-Pittsburg 63, 14-KC Turner 0 – The Purple Dragons had little trouble with Turner in a 63-0 win. Grant Roelfs rushed for two early touchdowns and Austin McKechnie tacked on another early in the second quarter for a 21-0 lead. Andrew O’Doherty then added an interception for a touchdown for a 28-0 lead. Cooper Hayden also passed for a pair of first-half scores. Pittsburg will host De Soto next week.
6-De Soto 50, 11-Topeka West 26 – De Soto pulled away from Topeka West in the second half to win 50-26 and advance to the next round where they’ll travel to Pittsburg. The Wildcats led 7-0 after the first quarter on a Tyler Schultze touchdown run. Schultze added another scoring run and a touchdown pass to Jack Millman as the Wildcats led 22-8 at the half.
5A – West
1-Kapaun Mt. Carmel 35, 16-Goddard 3 – Goddard struck first with a field goal and led 3-0 after the first quarter, but Kapaun eventually took control for a 35-3 win. Omari Elias scored on a 13-yard run on the first play of the second quarter to give the Crusaders the lead. Elias added his second touchdown with just :38 seconds remaining in the half for a 14-3 lead. Elias added a three-yard touchdown run just a minute into the third quarter and another three-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter. Dylan Hamilton completed the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Schmitz.
8-Maize South 48, 9-Wichita Heights 21 – Maize South running back Evan Cantu rushed for a school record 403 yards and five touchdowns. In a matchup with teams who had similar numbers entering the contest, Maize South opened with a 28-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Maize South ran freshman quarterback Tate McNew and sophomore Braxton Bigley. Cantu, who has led 5A in rushing much of the year, has 1,969 rushing yards and 25 rushing scores. Cantu is up to 2,330 all-purpose yards and 26 TDs. Maize South improved to 6-3 and ended a three-game losing streak. The Mavericks have played at least to Week 10 every season in school history, except for 2011, the program’s inaugural year.
4-Wichita Northwest 63, 13-Valley Center 0 – The Grizzlies scored 28 points in each of the first two quarters in rolling past Valley Center. Cencere Thompson rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns and L.J. Phillips added a team-high 191 yards and two scores. Geremiah Moore passed for 222 yards and threw touchdowns to three different receivers. Phillips, Roland Powell, and Michael Lopes, Jr. all caught touchdowns.
5-Salina Central 42, 12-Liberal 10 – The Salina Central defense forced four turnovers during a 42-10 win over Liberal. The defensive effort included a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown from Avery Richardson. The Mustangs, who started the season 1-2, have won six straight and will travel to face Wichita Northwest on Friday.
2-Andover 51, 15-Salina South 21 – Andover rolled up 530 total yards, including 339 on the ground in a 30-point win over Salina South. The Trojans scored 38 straight points and led 45-7 in the third quarter. Andover’s first touchdown came on a three-yard fumble return. Then, the Trojans scored on a 29-yard field goal, and then runs of 65, 10 and three yards. Andover tacked on TD passes of 27, 30 and 31 yards.
7-Hays 19, 10-Goddard-Eisenhower 13 – Hays senior Jaren Kanak scored from a yard out with :13 seconds remaining to provide the game-winning points in a 19-13 win over Eisenhower at Lewis Field Stadium. Kanak, who had been bothered by a hamstring injury, was limited in his carries until the fourth quarter. He finished with 12 carries for 88 yards with all but three attempts coming in the fourth quarter. Eisenhower moved the ball to its own 42 and ran a play that had multiple successful laterals before Hays made the tackle. Senior Roy Moroni delivered an impressive game with 21 carries for 123 yards and a score. After a scoreless first quarter, Moroni gave Hays a 7-0 lead with a five-yard run. Eisenhower closed to 7-6 in the second quarter on an eight-yard jump pass to Mason Levin. In the third quarter, junior Kyreese Groen scored on an impressive 35-yard run down the left side. Eisenhower came back with a 23-yard TD run.
3-Maize 39, 14-Newton 9 – Maize cruised by Newton with a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and 25-0 at halftime. Daeshaun Carter enjoyed another big game with 18 carries for 126 yards and three scores. Avery Johnson completed 4 of 10 passes for 95 yards. Maize only outgained Newton, 389-326, but was plus-two in turnover margin. Cole Segraves continued his fine year with a 40-yard field goal.
6-Bishop Carroll 31, 11-Hutchinson 28 (OT) – Trailing for much of the game, Bishop Carroll tied Hutchinson on a Chase Smarsh 4-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Holthusen with :01 second remaining to force overtime. In overtime, Hutchinson got the ball first and faced a fourth-&-goal at the 4-yard line. The Salthawks elected to go and fumbled the snap. Carroll got the ball and ran three plays before setting up Michael Polley’s game-winning 20-yard field goal.

4A East
1-Basehor-Linwood 53, 16-Labette County 8 – Top-seeded Bobcats rolled to a 45-point win over Labette County. Basehor-Linwood scored four touchdowns in the first quarter to quickly gain control. Zack Sisemore rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries. Jekai Harris led the Bobcats with 146 yards and two touchdowns on 15 attempts.
8-St. James Academy 56, 9-Louisburg 22 – The St. James Academy Thunder eliminated Louisburg for a second straight season in the 8/9 game. The Thunder scored the game’s first 42 points before Louisburg scored 22 consecutive points in the third quarter. Tiave Watts led St. James with 161 rushing yards and three scores, while House added 80 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
4-Paola 46, 13-Lansing 14 – Layton Brandt rushed for four touchdowns as Paola beat Lansing 46-14. Jovannie Blackie added two more TD runs for the Panthers. Paola moves on to face KC Piper at home in the second round. The Panthers defeated Piper 24-19 earlier this season.
5-KC Piper 46, 12-Coffeyville 6 – Senior Blake Porter and sophomore Gannon Roth threw two TD passes each as KC Piper crushed Coffeyville 46-7. Dominique Herrig-Brittian was Piper’s top receiving target with two catches for 121 yards. The Pirates now will face Paola, which has won the past six meetings between the two teams.
2-Chanute 57, 15-Bonner Springs 14 – Chanute improved its winning streak to eight games by defeating Bonner Springs 57-14 in the first round of the playoffs. The 57 points was the Blue Comets’ largest scoring outburst of the season. Chanute will be at home against perennial 4A powerhouse Bishop Miege.
10-Bishop Miege 34, 7-Tonganoxie 20 – Mac Armstrong threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes to break open a 20-20 tie and lift Miege into the second round. Armstrong, who did not play in the first quarter, passed for 289 yards and three scores including touchdown passes of 30 yards to Christian Bowen-Webb and 55 yards to Daegan Jensen to separate the Stags from Tonganoxie. Bowen-Webb had a big night in catching seven passes for 176 yards and a score. Jaylen Burch added 119 yards on the ground. Sam Kleidosty was seemingly everywhere for Tonganoxie and finished with 222 rushing yards and a score on 23 attempts.
3-Atchison 14, 14-Fort Scott 6 – Junior running back Jesse Greenly rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries as Atchison held off Fort Scott 14-6. It was Atchison’s first playoff win since 2008. The Phoenix, who are undefeated against Kansas opponents this year, will be at home against Eudora.
6-Eudora 48, 11-Ottawa 12 – Eudora scored 40 points in the first half and defeated Ottawa 48-12. Cardinals quarterback Gage Hayden ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more. Last year, Eudora fell to Basehor-Linwood in the second round.
4A West
1-Buhler 52, 16-Abilene 12 – Buhler scored seven first-half touchdowns in rolling to a 52-12 win over Abilene. Senior Sam Elliott rushed 21 times for 257 yards and five touchdowns on the night. Elliott has now rushed for 1,786 yards and 22 touchdowns this season. Bradley Neill’s only pass completion went to Bo Van Bruggen for a touchdown.
9-Winfield 21, 8-Independence 7 – Justyce Tate rushed for a pair of touchdowns as Winfield won at Independence, 21-7. Tate scored in the first and fourth quarters as part of his 53 rush yards. Ar’mon Acosta led the Vikings with 143 yards on 19 carries. Riley Yingling also added 83 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Independence scored on a Ryan Leiker pass to Hayden Smith.
4-Mulvane 46, 13-Ulysses 16 – Mulvane score 40 points in the first half of Friday’s 30-point win over Ulysses. The Wildcats forced four turnovers and their offense racked up 359 yards of total offense. Mason Ellis rushed for 152 yards and four touchdowns, while Julian Myers added 122 yards and two touchdowns. Ulysses got 136 rushing yards and two scores from Brennan Vagher.
5-McPherson 1, 12-Arkansas City 0 – Ark City has forfeited after the tragic death of Bulldog player Rhett Lathers.
2-Wamego 42, 15-Great Bend 21 – Wamego has its best offense since at least 1985, and Great Bend completed its second straight winless season. Hayden Oviatt had 236 rushing yards, 95 passing yards and four scores.
7-Augusta 33, 10-El Dorado 25 – Augusta scored 20 points in the second quarter to take a 26-11 lead into halftime. The Orioles then held off El Dorado, 33-25. Gavin Kiser passed for 175 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing score to lead Augusta. Sebastian Flower added more than 125 yards on the ground for the Orioles.
3-Andover Central 48, 14-Wellington 0 – Andover Central broke up its first-round contest with Wellington by scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter to extend a 14-0 lead to 35-0. Kai Kunz passed for 204 yards and three touchdowns – two of which went to Cooper Tabor as part of his 108-yard night. Brock Stupka also caught a touchdown pass from Kunz. Jackson Reese led the Jaguar ground game with 62 yards and two scores.
6-Towanda-Circle 28, 11-Rose Hill 14 – Circle bounced back from its 76-point loss at Buhler in Week 8 and delivered a 28-14 win versus Rose Hill. Circle improved to 6-3. The Thunderbirds have a five-win improvement from last year. From ’12-20, Circle had six total wins. The T-Birds have their most victories since 2001.

3A EAST
Galena 50, Burlington 6 – Galena won its eighth straight game with a 50-6 decision over Burlington. The Bulldogs converted an early Burlington turnover into points as Brett Sarwinski scored on a short touchdown run. Sarwinski and Tyler Little added early touchdowns as Galena built a 26-0 lead at halftime.
Frontenac 26, Columbus 6 – Frontenac earned its second win of the season over Columbus, beating the Titans 26-6 in the first round of the playoffs. The Raiders previously beat Columbus 20-0 to open the season. Now Frontenac will travel to face Galena. Last year, the Raiders beat Galena 25-7.
Topeka Hayden 49, Hiawatha 0 – Topeka Hayden executed a dominating performance in a 49-0 win over Hiawatha. Hayden, which improved to 8-1, is now on a seven-game winning streak. It was the Wildcats’ third shutout of the season. Hayden moves on to face Rock Creek.
Rock Creek 34, Bishop Ward 17 – Both of these teams enjoyed highly impressive years for its programs. Rock Creek, with nearly an entire new group of starters, has its most wins since 2011. Bishop Ward finished with its most victories since ’09. Ward led twice early, including 10-7. Dalton Whitworth completed 17 of 31 passing for 199 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Jaydon Winans finished with 13 carries for 89 yards and a score. Both of Daegen Vinduska’s receptions went for touchdowns. Whitworth has set school records for single season yards and TDs.
Girard 35, Caney Valley 8 – Girard scored all 35 points in the first half in cruising past Caney Valley. The Trojans, who are 9-0 for the first time since 1999, are enjoying a great turnaround after finishing 4-6 in 2020. Girard’s next opponent will be at home against Parsons.
Parsons 28, Prairie View 26 – Parsons avenged a regular-season loss to Prairie View by winning the playoff meeting 28-26. With Jeff Schibi in his second season as Parson’s head coach, the Vikings are 7-2 and won their first playoff game since 2018. Parsons will face Girard for the first time since 2018 when the Vikings beat the Trojans 6-0.
Holton 58, Santa Fe Trail 18 – Holton defeated a familiar opponent in a 58-18 win versus Santa Fe Trail. Holton is 9-0 for the first time since 2013. Holton is also 9-0 against Santa Fe Trail since 2010. The teams have met up in Week 9 the last three years.
Perry-Lecompton 28, Sabetha 21 – Perry-Lecompton junior quarterback Gunnar Ball passed for three TDs and ran for another during a 28-21 win over Sabetha. Ball completed 22 of 28 passes for 281 yards and rushed for 82 yards on 31 carries. The Kaws won despite being outscored 14-0 in the fourth quarter. They now will travel to face undefeated Holton.
3A WEST
Riley County 18, Russell 15 – Riley County built a 12-0 halftime lead and held off Russell, 18-15. Blake Brokenicky rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Falcon offense. The Riley County defense intercepted Russell three times – two by Sam Allen.
Concordia 52, Colby 20 – Concordia traveled to Colby and came away with a 52-20 victory. Keyan Miller broke free for a 66-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage to put the Panthers on top. He added another early touchdown as part of his four, first-half scores to help the Panthers to a 32-12 lead at the break. Miller rushed for five touchdowns on the night.
Andale 53, Hugoton 2 – Andale raced out to a 47-0 halftime lead in rolling past Hugoton into the second round. Gage Prosser led the Indians with 144 rushing yards and two scores. Cody Parthemer added two more rushing touchdowns for Andale. The Indian defense held Hugoton to 4 rushing yards on 26 attempts.
Holcomb 63, Hesston 25 – In a matchup of two high-octane passing attacks, Holcomb used big second and third quarters to pull away from Hesston, 63-25. Kaden Johnson passed for more than 255 yards and four touchdowns on the night for the Longhorns. Levi Knoll had more than 100 yards receiving and two scores. Cooper Henson had three receiving scores of 79, 13 and 14 yards.
Southeast of Saline 60, Marysville 7 – Southeast of Saline delivered another blowout win with a 60-7 victory versus Marysville. SES is 18-1 since the start of last season. SES allowed its first points since Week 3. The Trojans have allowed just 19 points all year. SES led 24-0 after the first quarter and 48-0 at halftime. Junior Luke Gebhardt completed 14 of 19 passes for 248 yards with three touchdowns against one interception. Senior Matthew Rodriguez continued his exceptional career with 14 carries for 64 yards and three TDs. Senior Chase Poague had six receptions for 128 yards and two scores. Senior Dalton Bunch delivered six tackles, four for loss.
Chapman 50, Smoky Valley 20 – Chapman fullback Eli Riegel delivered 40 carries for 274 yards and four scores. Chapman has scored at least 48 points for the fourth time this year. The Irish have a three-win improvement from last season and won four straight games. Chapman had no passing yards and finished with 55 rushes for 426 yards. The Irish is a combined one of six for zero yards in the last month, though have averaged 365 rushing yards a contest this year.
Cheney 48, Clearwater 14 – Cheney defeated Clearwater, 48-14. Cheney is a victory away from the first 10-win season in school annals. The Cardinals opened the scoring with an eight-yard TD pass from Harrison Voth to Jackson Voth. Then, Quincy Thomas delivered a two-yard TD run. Harrison Voth then threw a 12-yard TD pass to Luke Grace for a 21-0 lead with 5:17 left in the first quarter. The Cardinals led 42-0 with 9:53 left in the first half after Harrison Voth tossed two more TDs and Luke Grace had an 11-yard TD run.
Wichita Collegiate 23, Pratt 8 – Collegiate bounced Pratt from the 3A playoffs for a second consecutive season, although this one was much closer than last year’s 50-0 first-round decision. Jack Duarte connected on a couple of first-half field goals and Ashtun Villagomez returned a Pratt fumble for a touchdown to give Collegiate a 13-0 halftime lead. Pratt pulled to within 13-8 in the third quarter on an Enoch Walton touchdown run. The Spartans responded as Wesley Fair broke a 42-yard touchdown run and Duarte added his third field goal of the night. Fair rushed for 133 yards and passed for 119 more. Walton finished with 110 rushing yards on 29 attempts.

Riverton 14, Eureka 6 – Riverton held off Eureka 14-8 on a rain-soaked field on Thursday night. The Rams led 8-0 at halftime and 14-0 after a short touchdown run in the third quarter. Eureka scored midway through the fourth quarter, but could get no closer.
Osage City 47, Southeast-Cherokee 2 – Osage City took control with three early touchdowns and rolled past Southeast, 47-2. Landon Boss rushed for two touchdowns and threw touchdown passes to Garrett Fager and Tyler Sage. Brody Littrell also added to rushing scores. Southeast committed six turnovers in the game.
Rossville 56, Republic County 0 – Rossville rolled over Republic County, 56-0, and earned its 22nd straight victory. Rossville has outscored teams, 453-65. Rossville led 24-0 after the first quarter and 35-0 at halftime. Standout quarterback Torrey Horak, the reigning 2A Offensive Player of the Year, again did not play. Senior Corey Catron stayed at quarterback and completed 9 of 16 passes for 162 yards with two touchdowns. He rushed 10 times for 99 yards.
Nemaha Central 48, Pleasant Ridge 14 – Nemaha Central won its fourth consecutive game by handling Pleasant Ridge, 48-14. The Thunder will now go on the road to top-ranked Rossville in the second round. Nemaha Central has defeated a Mid-East League school in the second round in each of the past two seasons – Silver Lake in 2020 and Rossville in 2019.
Wellsville 48, Erie 6 – Wellsvile beat Erie, 48-6. The Eagles have outscored teams, 390-56. Wellsville has permitted just six points in the last three contests. The game was tied at six after the first quarter. Junior Nash Money rushed 28 times for 186 yards and three scores. Overall, Wellsville put up 457 yards of total offense and improved to 9-0. The Eagles had three straight 4-5 seasons before this year. Before then, the Eagles had four straight years of at least nine victories.
Humboldt 48, St. Mary’s Colgan 36 – Humboldt outscored Colgan 48-36 on Thursday night to advance to the second round. The Cubs let by two scores in the first half, but Colgan rallied to take leads of 30-24 and 36-32 in the second half. Humboldt scored late in the fourth quarter to take a 40-36 lead. Colgan drove deep into Cub territory but a 4th-and-short pass was incomplete. Humboldt’s Trey Sommer then broke a long touchdown run with around a minute to go while trying to run out the clock. Sommer finished with 199 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Aidan Fleming rushed for two touchdowns and passed for 187 yards and two scores for Colgan.
St. Marys 52, Mission Valley 0 – The St. Marys Bears won their fifth consecutive game with a 52-0 shutout of Mission Valley. The Bears are a legitimate contender on the eastern half of Class 2A despite their three losses to open the season. Those three losses came to two teams that are still undefeated in Riley County (17-14) and Rossville (44-20) and a one-point loss to Silver Lake (29-28). The Bears earned a rematch with Silver Lake this week at home.
Silver Lake 62, Atchison County 20 – Silver Lake defeated Atchison County, 62-20. The Eagles have outscored teams, 395-120. Both of Silver Lake’s losses came to Riley County and Rossville, Mid-East League squads that remain undefeated. This marked Silver Lake’s first matchups versus Atchison County since ’12-13. The Eagles won those games, 47-7 and 50-8.

Hillsboro 62, Douglass 7 – Hillsboro scored seven first-half touchdowns in cruising to a 62-7 win over Douglass. Senior quarterback Matthew Potucek rushed for four touchdowns and threw a pair of touchdown passes. Jamari Harris also broke an 85-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Trojans will take on Chaparral next week.
Chaparral 34, Marion 14 – Chaparral shut out Marion 22-0 in the second half to pull away for a 34-14 victory. Quarterback Wyatt Drouhard passed for 290 yards and four touchdowns in the game and became the schools’ single-season record holder for passing yards in the process. Drouhard has passed for 2,155 yards and 29 touchdowns this season – his first playing football since the eighth grade. Austin Clark also added 223 yards rushing and a touchdown in Thursday night’s victory.
Cimarron 51, Norton 27 – Cimarron was 0-2 all-time versus Norton with big losses in the 2010 and ’19 playoffs. This time, Cimarron bounced back from its upset loss at Ellis in Week 8 and delivered a playoff win. Cimarron led 14-7 after the first quarter and 30-13 at halftime. Senior Braxton Harrison completed 10 of 16 passes for 118 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He rushed 13 times for 166 yards and four scores. Senior Mason Eskam tacked on two rushing TDs.
Beloit 53, Lakin 6 – Beloit has now won five out of six games after last week’s 53-6 win over Lakin. The Trojans held the Broncs to 68 total yards in cruising to a big victory. Benson Berndt rushed for 190 yards and four scores for Beloit.
Kingman 52, Hutchinson Trinity 13 – Kingman defeated Hutchinson Trinity, 52-13. The Eagles have won eight in a row and get the rematch with Garden Plain. Last year, Kingman lost to GP in a game that came down to essentially the final play. This year, the Eagles beat Garden Plain, 10-7, in Week 6. Kingman has its most victories in at least 20 years.
Garden Plain 42, Haven 16 – Garden Plain captured its third straight win. The Owls rushed 36 times for 324 yards and five scores. Garden Plain led 21-0 after the first quarter. Senior Reed Adelhardt delivered 16 carries for 184 yards and four scores.
Hoisington 35, Ellis 14 – For the second straight year, Hoisington defeated Ellis in Week 9. Per Hoisington broadcaster Cole Reif, the Cardinals pulled away with scoring on all four possessions in the third quarter. Legend Robinson continued his big year with 18 carries for 141 yards and two scores. Tony Moore had five carries for 137 yards and a TD. Hoisington, the defending runner-up, has won eight straight this year – and eight consecutive first round playoff games. Robinson is closing in on 1,700 yards in his first year as a running back.
Thomas More Prep 42, Minneapolis 18 – Last season, TMP took a big Week 9 home loss to Beloit. A year later, the Monarchs improved to 7-2 and won its their first playoff game since 2002. TMP was in control from the start with a pair of pick-sixes. TMP led 42-0 before Minneapolis tallied a pair of late TDs.

Olpe (7-1) – First-round bye
Jackson Heights 62, Central Heights 10 – Jackson Heights advanced to the second round with a dominating 62-10 win over Central Heights. The Cobras raced out to a 50-3 lead at halftime in ending the Vikings season at 4-4. Jackson Heights will not take on top-ranked Olpe in a rematch from earlier this season. Olpe won that meeting, 35-0. Olpe and Jackson Heights also met twice in 2020 with the Eagles winning 35-0 during the regular season and 53-0 in the playoffs.
Jefferson Co. North (6-2) – First-round bye
Troy 22, Uniontown 14 – Cam Anderson rushed for a touchdown and threw a 35-yard scoring strike to Austin Grable in the decisive third quarter that propelled Troy to a 22-14 win at Uniontown. Anderson passed for 187 yards and two scores in the game – the other going to Brayden Hamilton in the first quarter. Troy will travel to Jefferson County North next week.
Centralia (6-2) – First-round bye
Valley Heights 29, Pleasanton 14 – Valley Heights went on the road and defeated Pleasanton, 29-14. The Mustangs built a two-score lead, 22-8, in the second quarter and added a touchdown in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Valley Heights will travel to Centralia for a second time this season this week. Centralia won the earlier meeting, 41-16.
Lyndon 59, Horton 13 – Lyndon advanced to the second round with a dominant performance over Horton. The Tigers are in their final season as an 11-man program as they’ll play 8-man football next fall. Lyndon will host Wabaunsee in the second round of the 1A playoffs.
Wabaunsee 68, Northern Heights 0 – Wabaunsee took care of business against Northern Heights with a dominating 68-0 performance. Cade Oliver passed for 200 yards and four touchdowns. The Chargers have now won three straight games and will host Lyndon in the second round of the 1A playoffs. Northern Heights was shut out for the fifth time in eight games this season.

Inman (8-0) – First-round bye
Oakley 48, Elkhart 6 – Oakley opened the season with five straight losses and has since won four in a row, all by at least 39 points. The Plainsmen led 21-0 after the first quarter and 42-0 at halftime. Junior quarterback Will Schmidt passed for two touchdowns and rushed for one. Senior Jackson Pfeifer tacked on two rushing TDs.
Conway Springs 68, Sacred Heart 0 – Conway Springs moved into the second round with a dominating 68-0 win over Sacred Heart. Izic Billups rushed for two scores and threw two touchdown passes. Brayden Kunz led the Cardinals with 114 yards and two scores on the ground. The Conway Springs defense limited Sacred Heart to 1 yard of total offense on 39 plays. Sacred Heart gave up 437 points in nine games this season.

Ell-Saline 48, Stanton County 0 – Ell-Saline posted its first shutout this year and had its biggest margin of victory. It marked the fourth time in 2021 that Stanton County didn’t score in a contest.
Smith Center 1, Wichita Independent 0 – Smith Center advanced via forfeit victory over Independent.
Whitewater-Remington 40, Ellinwood 13 – Whitewater-Remington clinched a winning record with its second straight victory. The Broncos will finish with their best record since a 7-3 mark in 2010. Ellinwood finished 1-8 and dropped its fourth straight contest.

Sedan 74, Flinthills 24 – Sedan improved to 9-0 for a second straight season. The Blue Devils got a challenge from Flinthills, but eventually took control for a 50-point win. Sedan traded scores with the Mustangs early on and held a 28-24 lead before taking control 52-24 at halftime. Two of Sedan’s early touchdowns came on kickoff returns for touchdowns after Flinthills scores. Brec Long rushed for five touchdowns and threw a pair of touchdown passes.
Chase County 54, Yates Center 0 – Chase County rolled to a 54-0 win over a short-handed Yates Center team. Mitch Budke continues his big junior season having set the schools’ new single-season rushing mark with 1,823 yards. He’s scored 46 touchdowns on the ground this season. Budke rushed for 253 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Yates Center. Chase County will travel to Sedan this week in a big second-round showdown. Chase County beat Sedan 56-18 in the second round last season.
Clifton-Clyde 66, Solomon 20 – Clifton-Clyde won its sixth straight contest with a 66-20 win over Solomon. Clifton-Clyde’s Colby Garrison rushed for five touchdowns on the night. The Eagles have allowed just 64 points this season.
Canton-Galva 60, Doniphan West 14 – Doniphan West scored first, but Canton-Galva took control with a 34-0 third quarter to win 60-14. Garrett Maltbie rushed for 166 yards and five touchdowns and threw touchdown passes to Tyson Struber and Ryder Norstrom. Struber caught four balls for 52 yards and also rushed for 59 yards and a score. Trent Spiker rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns for Doniphan West.
Madison 62, Marmaton Valley 0 – Madison defeated Marmaton Valley, 62-0. Madison dominated with 56 first quarter points. Madison has faced two teams this season, Hartford and Marmaton Valley, who have both reached 100 points in a victory this season. The Bulldogs shut out both of those squads. Madison has seven shutouts this year, including the last three in a row. Casey Helm completed 4 of 4 passes for 74 yards and three TDs. Marmaton Valley ran 34 plays for 22 yards. Drew Stutesman’s lone rush went for a 59-yard score. Lane Darbro had two catches for 30 yards, both for scores.
West Elk 44, Central Burden 24 – West Elk has won five in a row and improved to 8-1. The Patriots led 6-2 after the first quarter, but Central Burden posted a 24-12 lead at halftime. West Elk scored 16 unanswered in the third and fourth quarter. Freshman Creyo Koop enjoyed another big game with 28 carries for 103 yards for three TDs.
Little River 60, Valley Falls 0 – Little River rolled over Valley Falls, 60-0. The Redskins have won 17 straight games. Rylan Konen ran for two touchdowns, passed for one and caught a receiving TD. Little River limited Valley Falls to 71 total yards. Little River had 233 rushing yards in a game that ended at halftime. The Redskins have back-to-back shutouts and allowed just six points in the last month. Little River still has two one-score victories versus Clifton-Clyde and Canton-Galva, teams that are a combined 15-0 when not playing the Redskins. Little River faces Burlingame (6-2) in the Round of 16.
Burlingame 46, Bennington 0 – Burlingame has won five games in a row after last week’s 46-0 shutout of Bennington. Junior Colby Middleton rushed 16 times for 101 yards and four scores for the Bearcats. Burlingame will travel to defending-champion Little River this week.
8M-I WEST
Goessel 44, Pratt-Skyline 36 (OT) – Goessel needed more than four quarters to defeate Pratt-Skyline for the second consecutive season. The Bluebirds scored first in overtime on a 3-yard run by Jake Wiens and Grant Bryant added the two-point conversion. Goessel then intercepted Skyline’s fourth-down pass in the end zone. Wiens rushed for three touchdowns in the game, while Bryant passed for two scores. Brayden Berens scored three times on the ground for Skyline. Goessel won last year 54-48 in double-overtime in the second round of the playoffs.
Macksville 64, Medicine Lodge 30 – In Week 3, Macksville lost, 54-14, to Medicine Lodge. Medicine Lodge opened the season 6-0 and then lost three straight. Macksville is guaranteed to finish with its second-most wins since 2011. Medicine Lodge led 14-12 after the first quarter. Macksville outscored the Indians, 40-8, over the second and third quarter. Junior quarterback Ryan Kuckelman delivered 28 carries for 195 yards and two TDs.
Meade 54, Atwood-Rawlins Co. 6 – Meade beat Rawlins County, 54-6. Seniors Torren Haynes and Korben Clawson and sophomore Brock Keith all had at least one rushing score. Junior Grayden Stapleton had two receiving scores, and Keith had one. Senior Cullen Lumry had a sack and fumble recovery. The Buffs have won 11 straight games and has the high-profile home contest versus WaKeeney-Trego next week. Trego is 8-1 with only a last-second home loss to Hill City. The Golden Eagles have a seven-win improvement from 2020. Meade is plus-five. The Buffs have outscored teams, 443-84.
WaKeeney-Trego 52, Spearville 16 – Trego led 8-0 after the first quarter and 22-16 at halftime. WaKeeney again cleared 400 yards of total offense with 406. Junior Owen Day completed 10 of 16 passes for 122 yards with two scores against two interceptions. Junior James Kriegh had 20 carries for 212 yards and two scores. Spearville senior Kolten Bennett completed his great career with 30 carries for 154 yards and two TDs.
La Crosse 61, Moundridge 6 – La Crosse captured its seventh straight win and has scored at least 44 points in every win. The Leopards have a two-win improvement from last year. La Crosse beat Moundridge in Week 9 for the second straight season. La Crosse led 38-0 after the first quarter. Senior Colby Stull has 11 carries for 148 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Gage Burk had 10 carries for 140 yards and four TDs. Last year, La Crosse defeated Moundridge, 60-40.
Argonia-Attica 46, Kinsley 0 – Argonia-Attica has won five straight contests and improved to 7-2 all-time in Week 9 games. The game was called at halftime. A&A scored 16 points in the first quarter and 30 in the second quarter. The Titans ran 13 offensive plays for 139 yards and four scores. Senior quarterback Xander Newberry also had a pick-six of 46 yards, and sophomore Dalton Morrison returned an interception 13 yards for a TD.
Hill City 60, South Gray 22 – Hill City defeated South Gray, 60-22. The Ringnecks are 8-1 and get a rematch with Hoxie. Hill City defeated Hoxie, 61-40, in Week 6. Hill City has won six in a row. The Ringnecks’ players of the games were lineman/linebacker Ayden Nickelson, end/safety Derek Keith, quarterback Aiden Amrein and all-purpose threat Kaleb Atkins. The game was tied at eight after the first quarter. Overall, Hill City rushed for 372 yards and delivered 469 total yards. Amrein finished with another big game with 19 carries for 183 yards and four TDs. He completed eight passes of 10 passes for 97 yards. Atkins finished with another big game with 153 yards and three rushing TDs.
Hoxie 66, Leoti-Wichita County 58 – In Week 1, Hoxie lost 56-6 to Wichita County, the defending state runner-up. Hoxie was 0-3 against Wichita County since the start of 2020. Hoxie won three in a row. The Indians led 14-8 after the first quarter and 28-16 at halftime. Senior Ashton Dowell had another huge contest with 19 of 27 for 245 yards and five touchdowns against zero interceptions. Wichita County delivered a remarkable 97 plays for 501 yards. Junior Erhik Hermosillo finished a big season with 179 passing and 148 rushing. The game featured nine turnovers, five by Wichita County.

Waverly 38, Wakefield 0 – Waverly held slim leads of 6-0 at halftime and 14-0 after three quarters before exploding for 24 points in the fourth quarter on Thursday night. The rainy conditions made for a turnover-filled game with just four completed passes combined between the two teams. Judd Pope rushed for a pair of touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs.
Marais des Cygnes Valley 52, Colony-Crest 40 – Crest rushed for 450 yards and five touchdowns, but couldn’t get enough stops in a 52-40 loss to Marais des Cygnes Valley. Holden Barker ended his incredible junior season with 287 yards and three rushing scores. For the season, Barker rushed for 2,071 yards and 36 scores. Crest had defeated MdCV 56-34 back in Week 3.
Axtell 48, Beloit St. John’s-Tipton 0 – Isaac Detweiler threw two touchdown passes and rushe for two more scores as Axtell shut out St. John’s-Tipton, 48-0. Detweiler’s first touchdown came on a 72-yarder to Brandon Schmelzle to open the scoring. Schmelzle also rushed for a pair of scores as the Eagles built a 24-0 lead. Detweiler also threw a touchdown pass to Grady Buessing.
Hanover 24, Osborne 6 – Last year, Hanover beat Osborne twice en route to an undefeated season and state title. Hanover lost, 36-26, at Osborne in Week 5 this season. Both teams have been ranked in the top-five and each squad as suffered significant injuries. This time, Hanover beat Osborne, 24-6, and gets its rematch versus rival Axtell, ranked No. 1 in the classification.
Lebo 50, Southern Coffey Co. 0 – Lebo completely shut down Southern Coffey County in Thursday’s 50-0 win. The Wolves held the Titans to minus-41 yards of total offense on 25 total plays. Kyle Reese rushed for 250 yards and six touchdowns for Lebo, while Corey Reese added 100 yards and a touchdown.
St. Paul 40, Hartford 34 – The St. Paul Indians built a 26-14 lead at halftime and then scored twice in the fourth quarter to hold off Hartford, 40-34. Trey Peters rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Vincent Smith to pace the Indians. A.J. Navarro and Ali Smith each rushed for two touchdowns for Hartford.
Thunder Ridge 62, Onaga 16 – Thunder Ridge defeated Onaga, 62-16. The Longhorns have outscored teams, 466-102 this season. Onaga has delivered an explosive offense, though the Longhorns led 24-8 after the first quarter and 40-12 at halftime. Thunder Ridge closed it out with 22 points in the third quarter. The Longhorns ran 44 offensive plays for 437 yards. Junior Dylan Bice delivered 14 carries for 176 yards and two scores. Junior Dalton Bice had 11 carries for 107 yards and a TD. Thunder Ridge has continued its dominant offense with at least 44 points in every game. The Longhorns have averaged 58 points a game. Last year, Thunder Ridge finished 5-4 and averaged 38.9 points a contest.
Frankfort 60, Lakeside-Downs 40 – Frankfort scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away from Lakeside-Downs and eliminate the Knights for a second straight season. Ty Smith rushed for two short touchdowns that turned a 46-40 Wildcat lead into a 60-40 lead in the final quarter. Smith rushed for 100 yards and scored five touchdowns on the night. He also passed for a score. Caden Dalinghaus added 96 rushing yards and a touchdown. Kylan Cunningham accounted for three total scores for Lakeside, while Jace Schoen caught five passes for 120 yards.
8M-II WEST
Victoria 52, Peabody-Burns 6 – Victoria rolled over Peabody-Burns, 52-6. It marked Peabody-Burns’ last game as an eight-man program before it transitions to six-man starting next year. The Knights led 22-6 after the first quarter and 30-6 at halftime in a game that was called at halftime. Carson Werth rushed 12 times for 208 yards and six touchdowns. Victoria had 342 yards, 330 rushing. Victoria gets explosive Caldwell at home in the Round of 16. The Knights have never faced Caldwell before. Victoria has one home playoff loss from '12-20.
Caldwell 57, Central Plains 8 – Keiondre Smith rushed for five touchdowns as Caldwell moved into the second round with a 57-8 win over Central Plains. Caldwell won this matchup 36-34 in the second round last season.
Dighton 58, Triplains-Brewster 12 – Dighton had one on-field win in the last two seasons and entered this year on an eight-game losing streak. The Hornets have achieved a dramatic turnaround with only a Week 2 loss to Quinter. Dighton led 16-6 after the first quarter and 30-12 at halftime in a game that was called after three quarters. The Hornets rushed for 424 yards. Junior Max Neeley had 19 carries for 256 yards and four scores. Senior Jaden Coleman has 12 rushes for 137 yards and three TDs.
Quinter 36, Minneola 28 – Quinter edged past Minneola and improved to 8-1. The Bulldogs have their most victories since 2009. Minneola posted 400 yards of total offense. Quinter has played the last several weeks without standout Jaden Boone, who is out for the year.
South Barber 52, Otis-Bison 6 – South Barber beat Otis-Bison, 52-6, the second time this season the Cheiftains have defeated the Cougars. Sophomore Briggs Jewell completed seven of 13 passes for 109 yards with two touchdowns against one interception. Junior Gatlin Jewell rushed 18 times for 193 yards and four scores. South Barber plays host to Heart of the Plains League rival Norwich. In Week 2, South Barber lost, 26-24, at Norwich.
Norwich 38, Sylvan-Lucas Unified 12 – Norwich has gone through extensive injuries and COVID-19 issues but beat Sylvan-Lucas for the second time this year. In Week 5, Norwich beat Sylvan-Lucas, 42-12. Norwich sophomore quarterback Tray Schroeder accounted for four TDs.
Wheatland-Grinnell 50, South Central 0 – Wheatland-Grinnell beat South Central in Week 9 for the second straight year. Last season, it was a one-score game. Wheatland-Grinnell won its eighth straight contest. The Thunderhawks have eight wins apiece in the last three years. The Thunderhawks led 20-0 after the first quarter. Senior Isaac Mendez has 19 carries for 205 yards and five touchdowns.
Bucklin 38, Sharon Springs-Wallace County 14 – Bucklin bounced back from its loss against Dighton and improved to 8-1. Scott Price rushed for 178 yards and two scores for Bucklin and also had more than 100 receiving yards and another score. The Red Aces have tied for its most victories in a year since an 8-2 squad in 1996.
