It is state tournament week and our friends at Kansas Performance Index (KPI) have used their points system data for the entire season to project the outcome of each tournament game in the boys classifications. They have not only projected the winner of each game, but the final score as well.
In its inaugural season for basketball, KPI uses a formula to rank boys basketball teams in each classification and across all classifications. KPI assigns points for each game based on an opponents’ winning percentage, classification, the game’s final points margin, and the location of the game.
The system is used to assign a KPI rating and teams are ranked accordingly. The formula then compares games of similar KPI rating differences and uses points per game with points allowed to predict the score and outcome.
We hope you enjoy the KPI projections as much as we have.
